I believe that what I said many posts ago is true - to wit - (sorry for this rant)

1) I see no reason why someone would do this type of crime knowing you will be caught.

2) I think there is the possibility that SR was tied to the mob at some point for example: major gambling (or other) debt and they decided to "but him out..." (this is a form of a bust out, most end up in bankr.) Since most people here know the word "vig" then you know what a 'bust out' is. The mob could be any mob faction of any ethnic background; or a combination working together to "milk the deal..."

This way he could repay his debts or whatever else they had on him (MB) and let him play his John Gotti games as long as they were paid. If this is the case, or part of the core, the money is long gone - remember my post about money drifting into NJ payday loan and other check cashing places. (that came from a well-connected source).

If his payments + juice (I am sure this audience knows this term also) were not timely there could be immediate problems (a la security)

The Frumm community in Brooklyn is now also very unhappy and would like to take action. Invested: 125,000,000

I further believe (option) that he was given certain assurances and safeguards as to what would happen to him, as in: "Scott, relax, we know what we are doing..."

Be realistic, who could create and sustain such a scam over the long haul? Why would this suddenly shift to crime? Did he start the scheme and MB became a problem? Did he have to solicit help with that problem only to find that the "help" was now a partner? I have known many white collar criminals who ripped off many people but they did not carry a gun or have major security. Conversely, I have known white collar schemers that did carry a gun because they could not maintain enough inbound cash to keep up with the principal and the juice. I was raised in the garment and advertising industry in NYC and have seen this many times in smaller ways. I remember when I was a kid and my Dad went on those (mob) gambling junkets and if he lost he told me "when I get back to NY I have to have a check (or cash) ready in two days." I said and what if you don't? Response: "I get a 'visit' and 24 hours or, they will make a plan for me. (fortunately this never happened)

3. Almost every one of the main or secondary players has been tied to a criminal or close-to-criminal past. Everybody else is expendable.

4. As for the greedy investors; anything I say would be repetitive of what we all know and already think.

I applaud Levin for trying to act innocent and as a normal, every-day investor. Won't work.

Unfortunately, we live in a world that lives by the phrase: "for money you get honey" and no matter who you are in society this always holds true.

I would love to see the money-map developing by the Feds. Like I said before this post, this is an important case and win for the new Fin Fraud Task Force.

If I were one of those women NOW..I would be mortified to have been associated with the firm. I pity the ones that actually were there between 2005 and when the fraud hit the fan....

Who in Gods name would want to have the fact they were associated with RRA?

Abrams and Berger almost NEVER saw SR.

WHile they were on Las Olas their offices were on the 12th floor in the Kip Hunter Suite because it was taking SO long to build out the North office.

Unfortunately the other lawyers may be inplicated in a masive amount of crap because SR MADE them do a lot of legal work by order (ususally comped for one of his friends).

Federal prosecutors filed an amended forfeiture suit Friday against alleged Ponzi scheme operator Scott Rothstein, adding four multimillion dollar properties to their siezure list, including a Boca Raton home formerly owned by auto dealership magnate Ed Morse.

The Boca Raton home, bought by Morse in January for $9 million, is still listed in his name in property records, but prosecutors say in their suit that it was bought by a Rothstein company, JB Boca M Holdings LLC, in September for $7.2 million. A deed reflecting that sale has not been filed in Palm Beach County land records.

The amended suit also seeks to lay claim to three other multimillion dollar Rothstein properties -- two side by side homes on Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island bought for $5.6 million and a Manhattan condo bought for $6 million. Prosecutors also are seeking to seize two commercial properties in Boca Raton.

The earlier suit already sought several of Rothstein's Florida homes, sports cars and yachts. In all, prosecutors are seeking Rothstein's interests in 22 businesses and nearly 100 corporations.

The FBI alleges Rothstein began running a $1 billion Ponzi scheme in 2005 by selling investors stakes in legal settlements that did not exist. Rothstein was disbarred by the Florida Supreme Court on Wednesday, and his law firm is being disolved in bankruptcy court.

No criminal charges have been filed against Rothstein, but dozens of FBI and IRS agents are investigating.

Attorneys for Morse have alleged that Rothstein scammed the 88-year-old man out of $57 million earlier this year in part by forging federal court documents in a lawsuit Rothstein was handling for Morse against an interior decorator. Morse recovered some of that money, but his attorneys would not specify how much.

The Sherer complaint describes a Committee meeting on Nov. 1, 2009.

In other threads I gave some thumbnail bios of the participants. I didn't include Laurence King -- he founded a "Greenwood Capital" in May 2009 with Mark Shefts. They used a Montvale NJ address for the LLC. This is the same as a number of other investment businesses of Shefts. Shefts has a SEC trail for a margin account problem in 2001.

I had a good life, friends, nice home, family. Until wbout three weeks ago. www.projo.com ran an item about Scott W. Rothstein, who titled two homes into a DE LLC.

We didn't know Rothstein but we know the neighborhood, of which some oldtimers say, "there's a story there." Our former homestead is close by. Both neighborhoods are situated on the east shore of Bluff Hill Cove, part of Point Judith Pond in the Town of Narragansett, RI.

News reports erroneously cay Narragansett Bay. That begins several miles to the north and east, on the Atlantic side of Point Judith Neck.

I googled Scott W. Rothstein. I found Bob Norman's blog. You know the rest. That's why I'm here. I've lost everything. No place to go.

I don't know where the family went. Friends quit calling. A couple pals came by after a several days, sniffed no decomp gasses, assumed all to be well, and left.

1. anyone who knows anything about rosenfeldt and his political contributions and adler and his political contributions should immediately write to the florida bar. and the feds should be called repeatedly as should the state attorneys office to force them to act. it is clear based upon information in the public records that they were facilitating the laundering of ponzi money to get it into politicians hands to influence votes and appointments and lord knows what else. adler gave more to politicians in one year than he made in a year. rosenfeldt gave huge sums as well. where did the money come from. ponzi king rothstein and his merry band of ponzi princes of course. all the bar has to do is put these idiots under oath and ask them where the money came from. if it came from the firm to them and then they gave it they are guilty of a felony. GIVING IN THE NAME OF ANOTHER. the other does not have to be a person...it can be an entity. why are they still practicing law??? at least that scumbag rothstein gave up his license instead of making the bar waste more resources chasing him. rosenfeldt and adler should man up and do the same.
2. grant smith was clearly the man behind all the money manipulations to politicians. his office was right next to that of the infamous roger j stone, jr. the political operative responsible for more political skullyduggery than any other in our time. the bar needs to put smith under oath and ask him about his involvement in the sheriffs race, the lamberti eco, his contacts with the sheriffs office on behalf of rothsteins company, edify, and other related subjects. and not to tell them how to do their job, but the feds and the state should be doing the same. his father was a crook and the apple does not fall far from the tree. dig deep and you will find smiths fingerprints all over many political machinations.
3. boden---why is he not the subject of a grand jury investigation. it is clear just from the info now in the public domain that he was a main player. investor after investor has said they never met with rothstein,only boden and his cohort rich pearson. and he is still living in one of
rothsteins multi million dollar
intracoastal homes. is it just me or does this scream for action.
4. stracher and osber---someone needs to put these boys under oath and check their involvement in all this, especially the morse fiasco. from what i have heard, stracher was the morses main atty. i heard from stever osber, another partner at the firm that stracher NEVER let anyone do ANYTHING on any morse matter without his knowledge. and that he would rant like a 2 year old if anyone did anything on any morse matter without his knowledge and approval. So all of sudden he knows nothing about morse being scammed. he was involved in every case except the case being handled
by rothstein and osber. i pulled some of the real pleadings in the jones morse case
and osbers name is all over them. so how is it possible that rothstein was doing all this without osber knowing about it and stracher knowing about it. it was well known at rra that stracher used to get on rothstein and lots of others regardless of their position in the firm about everything that bothered him, from the size of his office to how the morse files were handled to his parking space. thus, i have no doubt and neither should the feds or the bar believe that strachers hands were clean. nor osbers. this stinks to high heaven.
5. more on osber---looking at the pleadings, osber was clearly taking the lead on morse --jones, the file rothstein used to scam them (although it gets complicated because sources close to the whole mess say the ted morse, the founders son, the CEO of the company, was helping rothsteins scam in many many ways) back to osber---if osber was doing what any real attorney not aware of and participating in the scam would do---for example--sending his clients copies of everything that was really going on, rothstein and his cohorts never could have pulled the morse scam off. what rothstein and his cohorts were telling the morses was going on NEVER would have matched the pleadings osber SHOULD have been sending----so osber had to be in on it....clearly intentionally withholding
pleadings and other communications from his
clients. he could have stopped the scam but
instead aided it. lets look at his salary compared to his collections and see if he was on the take. he was clearly aiding the scam and so i hope he made it worth his own disbarment and jail time.
6. and back to stracher---according to people close to morse, stracher was providing monthly reports to morse on ALL morse cases. so either stracher knew what was going on and was in on it....or stracher knew what was going on and was in on it....or .....get my point.

8. pearson---according to folks at scherers office pearson was not only in on the ponzi scheme but he and boden were adding their own big VIG to each of the cases and sharing it. it wasnt enough that they were helping rothstein rip off the investors-----they had to rip off each investor just a little more. GREED!!!!!!!
9. preve---according to folks at scherers office preve had his own little businesses on the side that he kept hid from levin. apparently he was doing business with laurence king and jack simony behind levins back. it wasnt enough that he and levin were helping rothstein rip off investors---the idiotic proclamation(i mean confession) by levin at the investor meeting at scherers office that he offered to help rothstein come up with the 300 million dollar shortfall---how could their be a shortfall georgey boy if you were
selling your investors cases that were already settled and paid for--what a moron--he should sue his atty) but i digress---but preve was ripping off levin on top of it. GREED!!!!!!!!!!!
10. levin---scherers folks are also advising that levin was using money from the investors to keep up his lavish life style. money that was supposed to go to rothsteins ponzi pocket was going straight into levins personal expense account. GREEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!

WOW! This blog/story is very addictive. I am new to this blog site, but have been hooked since discovering it yesterday.

I grew up in South Florida and am not suprised by all of the high-profile people involved in this case and all of the shenanigans involved.

All I know is that my brother used to date George Levin's daughter in high school and I am VERY grateful that he did not marry her! Although it may have been nice for a while to fly on Levin's jet(s), go to his ski house, etc. Ha!

1. rothstein definitely not a rat. too many "friends" from the bronx and down here(think runway 84) in fraudlauderdale that would have removed him from the planet along with his family and close friends if he even thought of it. according to a source inside scherers office that is working daily on the project and who has been sharing info with the feds, the feds approached rothstein thru his atty, nurik, and he told them to F off. typical rothstein. too stupid and too full of himself to realize that cooperating would have cut his sentence by at least a third.
2. rosenfeldt is the great cooperator. mr. xanax himself. he professed to be rothsteins best friend, stole money right along side him for years, used all the cash he could get his hands on to support his ten thousand dollar a week escort habit and then when the shit hit the fan started crying like a baby about how innocent he was and how he was betrayed by rothstein. rosenfeldt now known a RATSENFELDT. he took and took and took and when it came time to man up he put on some panties and a skirt and tried to drive away in his ferrari to get to his yacht. i dont know who makes me more ill....rothstein who is too stupid to try to help himself or RATSENFELDT who sobbed and sniveled all the while selling out his best friend.
3. all this crap about the inner sanctum is as i said when this all started is fantasy. first, according to tom bates, the guy who along with his wife, katia, designed and built out rothsteins new office confirmed that it only existed like that for about 6 months. the rest of the time it was wide out in the open with people walking in and out constantly. same for irene stay, his cfo and villegas, his coo. all wide open. and when it was "sealed off" it really wasnt. rosenfeldt and boden and others had swipe card 25/7 access and used it multiple times a day. and one of the buildings maintenance people confirmed to someone in schearers office that they keep a print out of who uses the cards and when.
4. i am certain rothstein will be arrested first but i am also certain that many arrests will follow. not just attorneys from the firm and support staff but many many many politicians. even without rothstein cooperating the records they must have found in his office regarding campaign contributions and pay for play will send a tidal wave of indictments over broward and tallahassee.

I was there in October 2008 and the entire system of offices (12th floor , 16th floor, and 22nd floor) was wired with cameras and bugs.
Joe Alu's son Dominick sat at monitors on the 12th floor suites (Kip Hunters area) and watched monitors ALL day and ALL night. SR had access to the audio and video whenever he wanted.

I KNOW. He had WAAAYYYYY to much 'casual' info that went on privately in offices...

He may have ramped it up but they were always there.

There were only MAAAYBE 6 people plus security (Bobby, Joey) that had access to the Seperate dooron 16th foor(glass door to the inner sanctum located down short hall where the elevators were, Main entrance to the opposite side thru double glass doors) and seperate elevator with key cards.

EVERYONE else had the same coded cards for the rest of the floors/offices throughout the BA building. You could enter the the area that led to the inner sanctum hallway once you were in the 16th floor lobby to the left but good luck getting into SR's 'hallway' with Debra, Uncle Bill, Marybeth, Irene, Aimee and Amy...

Bill Scherer needs to get his facts straight in his Complaint. His "investigative team" doesn't seem very competent:
1. RRA was not co-counsel on the Eli Lilly case. That firm had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with it. They were not counsel of record for anyone in the case.
2. He must be speaking with/working with Jeffrey Epstein's attorneys if he believes any depositions sought in the case were "inappropriate." It's not his case, he was not involved with the investigation, so how would he know whether or not it was appropriate to depose certain individuals?
3. He fails to mention that the Chiquita mass tort cases were CONRAD SCHERER'S cases!!!
He doesn't have the facts straight on any of the legitimate cases, not even HIS OWN FIRM'S case that SR was using in his Ponzi scheme. Shouldn't he disclose that to his clients or mention it in the Complaint. Seems a little fishy to me...

A Hicksville man pleaded guilty Monday to operating a $2.4 million Ponzi scheme that promised investors he could procure gift cards, sports tickets and timeshares, Nassau prosecutors said.

Craig Ginsberg, 48, pleaded guilty to grand larceny in exchange for a sentence of 3 ½ to 7 years in prison at his Oct. 29 sentencing date.

In 2006, Ginsberg told family, friends, and colleagues that he could procure gift cards to stores like Target, Best Buy, Nordstrom’s and Toys ‘R Us, as well as Visa and American Express gift cards, for half price, but that they must wait three months to get their cards, prosecutors said. Ginsberg would purchase gift cards at face value and tell his victims that he got them for half-off. Victims would then increase the dollar amount of future purchases, and start bringing in other friends and family members.

Those new to the scheme wanted to be part of its “success,” and would pre-pay thousands of dollars for more gift cards they thought were coming. But the scheme fell apart in the 2008 when Ginsberg could no longer maintain it, prosecutors said. Almost all of the victims who invested money in 2008 received nothing. Sixty-three victims then reported to authorities that they lost a total of $2,392,435.

In addition to the gift card scam, Ginsberg also claimed that he could provide luxury suites for Islanders games, Knicks games, and the Super Bowl. Ginsberg told victims that if they fronted the money to purchase the suite from a distressed owner, he could flip it for a profit and get them a huge return on their investment, prosecutors said. He similarly told victims that he could buy overseas timeshares from distressed owners and then sell them for a huge profit.

Those swindled include doctors, lawyers, accountants and the congregation of a South Shore temple that lost a combined $15,000. One victim lost nearly $1 million in gift cards and timeshare investments while several others lost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

“Mr. Ginsberg stole from his friends and family, ruining their finances and violating their trust,” Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said in a statement. “It is imperative for investors to understand the risks they are taking and to know that there is no such thing as a sure thing. If it looks too good to be true, then it probably is.”

Ginsberg’s attorney, Michael Schwed, said: “He’s very remorseful and feels very bad about the people he hurt and wishes it didn’t happen and was hoping to recoup the money to make everybody whole but it just didn’t work out that way.”
