Sheriff's Officer Escorted Rothstein to Jet Last Week

Sheriff's spokesman Jim Leljedal confirmed that Rothstein phoned his friend Benjamin, who was off-duty and armed at the time, on the night of October 27 and asked him to escort him to his plane. Leljedal says Rothstein told Benjamin he was going on a business trip and that Lamberti's right-hand man had no idea Rothstein's fraudulent business scheme had imploded and he was fleeing the country.
"[Benjamin] got a phone call from Rothstein, and he said he was going on a
business trip and his regular security people were off-duty," Leljedal told me. "He asked [Benjamin] to meet him at the airport and walk him to the plane. Dave agreed to do it.
"He met him. They walked to the plane, the driver loaded some luggage, and Dave said goodbye. He was doing it as a friend. They have been friends for many years."
Leljedal said Lamberti had no idea about the trip and didn't learn that Benjamin had escorted Rothstein to his jet. Which he said was chartered by Banyan Air Service, until today.

Apparently the sheriff, or at least his personal executive officer, was there for Rothstein as well.
It's yet another bizarre twist to the Rothstein saga, which seems destined to consume this town for the indefinite future. Rothstein was obsessed with security to the point that he hired Fort Lauderdale police officers to protect him and his family at a cost of about $1,000 a day.
Much speculation surrounds Rothstein's exit from the country. I've heard numerous reports that he had a duffle bag full of cash when he returned from Morocco on Tuesday. I've heard there was $3 million in it, though that's not confirmed, and many wonder how much cash he had when he left the country.
Leljedal said Rothstein didn't go through any security or U.S. Customs when he left for Morocco and that neither was necessary because he was flying on a private plane through a chartered service.

Was Lt. Benjamin on duty when he committed this felony, I mean performed this "personal favor" service for Mr. Rothstein? Next time I am running late for the airport I'll call BSO and see if they will give me a private escort so I can bypass security without having my bags checked. To pose such a statement exemplifies just how far people’s herd-panic thoughts have strayed from common sense. The signs of this mental disorder are everywhere, from the main stream media to comments holding court in the shadows of blogs.
Ok, so the first year associate who has 100k in student loans and took a job at RAA should be permanently disbarred?? Every lawyer who should be held personally responsible for fact checking the transfers of wealth of the partners who hire them, less face disbarment?

Rothstein boasted of having sophisticated eavesdropping equipment and that former cops on his payroll would sift through potential defendant's garbage. With compromising evidence in hand, the firm urged the targets of the claims to pay a settlement to avoid the embarrassment of a public lawsuit. That's extortion. Eavesdropping is a felony, and it's outright unconscionable. There is no word awful enough to describe these lowlifes. Jail them, fine them, sanction them, disbarr them, try them in the public square, then put them where they belong in the worst possible for the longest time you can.

Also, each lawyer in the firm has trust account violations. Lawyers are required to certify to the Florida Bar each year that they are familiar with the law firm’s trust account procedures and that they comply with the strict accounting of the Rules. Obviously that was not done, and could not honestly be done.
Any lawyer who was held out as a partner or shareholder and who had knowledge of Scotty’s peddling of structured settlements for cash for him and the firm will, and should, get indicted, regardless of whether they knew of Scotty’s thievery. It’s securities fraud. The other lower level “partners”
and “shareholders” will avoid indictment only by coughing up evidence on those up the ladder and/or agreeing to restitution whereby they forfeit their last three years earnings from the firm a/k/a RICO enterprise. That is what has consistently happened in other law firm frauds.
Add to this the obvious violations of the election laws. Are we suppose to really believe that the partners contributions (such as Adler’s $200k) were not reimbursed by Scotty from his trust account dipping?
The IRS is going to have a field day imputing income and recharacterizing RRA’s spending as excessive and thus income.
The so-called” investors obviously were lulled with promises of no 1099’s because of the “confidential
settlements.” This will be shown to be a tax avoidance scheme.
It’s sad that the partners recruited by Scotty could be such gullible pigeons. But, yes they DID
know better. Yes, they're STUPID. Yes, they're gonna pay, serve time and lose their licenses and be viewed as pariahs.
Once again, Fort Lauderdale gets branded nationally as “the fraud capital of the United States.” Once again, lawyers all get branded as crooks.

I never knew anything about him until now. All I knew was that I was sick of seeing him & his wife at soo many charity events (as shown in the local magazine society pages) in an effort to "see & be seen". It was obvious. Lame. If he really cared about charities and was the nice guy he portrayed himself to be, he wouldn't be wanted for ANYTHING illegal right now. And now we find out he was giving away other people's hard earned $ to the charities & politicians. Hope he doesn't try to plead insanity since he has, as he said "43 different personalities living in my head". Really? He's so cool, there's 43 of him! He's just an ego maniac. It's always good to see the "bad guy" go down. It should be fun to watch.
There are some good people in this town who earned money honestly by working hard and they give to our local charities and you never see them trying to get publicity for it. Funny, those are the people we should be hearing about--the ones setting a REAL, good example instead of the phonies just showing off & trying to get ahead.

Posted On: Sunday, Nov. 8 2009 @ 9:36AMis it true that under your command as sheriff of BSO, a road patrolman made a stop in distric 2 (dania)of a suspicious vehicle late at night in the wrong side of town. is it true sir that the following morning that patrolman appeared at the office of the top brass (yours) and was promised anything he wanted in order to brush said incident under the rug. wasn't he immediately transfered to the K9 unit even though there was a long waiting line. why was he so SPECIAL to jump to the head of the line and who was that person in the car that was stopped and what was found in the car that you needed to be made aware of this personally so early in the morning.
the FBI want's to know, the question is, who is going to tell them ken i guess if we look at the K9 unit and officers who transfered there from district 2 we'll get a better picture. yes, it's called getting at least 3 birds with one stone. hey BOB can you please please post the number for the local FBI office please.

What type of work is Edify/Rothstein doing? How long has Edify/Rothstein had contracts with Broward government?
What does it add up to... $1 million, $2 million... How much money is Vista getting for insuring all of the county employees. I am sure their campaign contributions earned them millions and millions in premiums. Why doesn't someone audit this? Vista has a poor financial rating - why would the county insure with them? Did Rothstein make the deal with the county government and did he get a kickback from Vista?
How could Edify - a small agency with a bad reputation get the contracts when there are companies with years of experience and excellent reputations that lost the bid.
Was there a published bid process and if so - did it follow the appropriate procedures in reviewing the submissions and awarding the contract? Didn't Palm Beach county use Edify for selecting health insurance and now there are problems because Edify used underhanded tactics and the selection is being challenged?
It is amazing just how far the greed and corruption of Rothstein reached. Only hope someone will dig into (and publish)the behind the scenes dealings that Rothstein engineered for his "close friend(s)"!

And what about the 2008 murder of Melissa Britt Lewis who was an attorney in Rothstein's firm? The ex-husband of Rothstein's longtime accountant is charged with the murder and is awaiting trial. The charging prosecutor has since left the state attorney's office to work for Rothstein. Does anyone think Broward Sheriff's Department can honestly and effectively investigate the Lewis murder?
