1. the number two guy in BSO meets Rothstein at the airport and escorts the guy through the building to the plane. All the regular bodyguards are ft. lauderdale cops. Bso patrols the airport. The number 2 guy waives off other officers. Scott allegedly gets on the plane with 200 million dollars flys to morocco and decides to turn himself in. but he only returns with 3.5 million. Why no story about this?
Why no investigation into the BSO number 2 guy?

2. If evan jenne ownes blue banyan and blue banyan gets investors for scotts scam and ken jenne works for scott. why isn't this being investigated? Did Scott already give up the jennes as part of his plea deal attempt with the feds.

3. The reason why scott admitted the wrong doing is because he already gave up everyone else to the feds and secured a plea deal for five to ten years. Is this true?

Anonymous - While there are certainly individuals of questionable integrity in every arena, majority of writers are of the truth-seeking variety. Bob Norman is an excellent example of an individual empassioned to expose corruption and its manifestation within a community and local government. Kip Hunter is a Marketer. She sells a brand, not an actual person. There is a big difference, and it is unfortunate to consider them in the same catagory.

Yes reporters, editors and ad folks were complicit in this fraud, not only through their derelict in-action when obvious crimes were staring them in the face, but also by pumping up Rothstein and aiding his act.
Regarding reporters' in-action, their excuses are as follows, and these are only a few of them:

1- very unsophisticated media region to begin with

2- many of the few good writers who were here have been laid off, downsized, beat-shifted. The old style news room with layers of people and institutional knowledge is gone forever. (Which may a good thing).

3 - TV: With the exception of a few old timers left like Putney and Nelson and a couple of others most newscasts are now high school productions with wanna-be actor kids in their 20s earning nothing.

4 - Reporters are being paid less but asked now to write around the clock, filing version after version with fewer resources than ever. Even the good ones are just filing fast-junk half the time because there is no time to really examine anything, no staff to help investigate, or probably even read this blog for tips! In here alone there are at least 100 stories worth pursuing

5 - True anyone who was paying half-assed attention to this town should have been investigating this years ago. And the Sun Sentinel knew about dirty Scott for at least 3 or 4 years as he was purchasing hundreds of thousands of dollars in ad space mostly in City & Shore and also "sponsoring" an oddly huge number of sports and civic events and posing with athletes all over town. That certainly should have raised the eyebrows of any decent sports or city beat guy a long long time ago. (As well as these athletes agents. In fact, where the F were THEY, allowing their pro sports gods to be part of such rancid shit?)

Back to news. So did the Sentinel just take all the advertising money knowing it was dirty? Did someone on the staff push for a Rothstein investigation and get smacked down by management?

It's fact that some people at the Sentinel and City and Shore were horrified by Rothstein's vanity ads. When he then started to indirectly control editorial by making big donations and then strongarming the donatees into giving the magazine an interview about the event or charity, some people did finally bolt.

But no action to either drop the ads or bar him or look into him was ever taken.

Meantime all those incidental party photos of Scott, Kim, Crist, Marino, the Levinsons, Kip and pals just kept running and running. Was it because an overwhelmed editor was so shortstaffed he/she welcomed any way possible to quickly fill pages and Kip just kept this endless stream of photos reliably coming in?

Did City and Shore not care or just not recognize how these rank amateur ads and photos were destroying what minor luxury credibility this small little social magazine had at all?

Luxury advertising is a world all its own and those RRA ads and party pics did not come close to meeting any legitimate luxury ad standard or traditional 'look.'
This ugly debacle will reach far and wide.

for all the people who say they knew he was a fraud, and how could others not know he was a fraud..... no one seemed to be speaking up before last weekend. i just read Bob Norman's old articles about him and none of the hundreds of comments to those posts alleged fraud.

really sad thing is so many people DID know he was a criminal, suspected the money was either drug money or mob money, and were maybe afraid to say? Who knows. But I know two big groups of professional people who said for a long time it was all house of cards due to collapse.

Facts about Kim and Scott. Per the Florida Real Estate Licensee database, Kim (registered under her Maiden name, Wendell) has been Licensed as a Florida Real Estate Agent for 9 years (since 2000 and prior to meeting Scott) and Scott has been an Attorney and Member of the Florida Bar since 1988 (21 years). They have been married since January of 2008. Ironically, his 1st Wife's name was also Kim.

I heard plenty of local society media groan (behind closed doors, of course) about SR, saying that he was overexposed and that it was the same people all the time and that he and wife were tacky. But that didn't stop them from attending the events and running the pics and ridiculous articles because it's a fact that Kip would make them include coverage as part of her ad buys. They also weren't above having Kim call certain society editors to ask for covers.
