And that's bad for Ben Graber, the former Broward mayor and county commissioner who tried to make hay with Robert Wexler's cocaine joke on The Colbert Report and who has a nasty batch of ads that he ran during a bitter primary campaign in 2008. Ads like the one below.
"For almost twenty years, first as our State Senator and then as our Congressman, Robert Wexler has been a courageous, outspoken advocate for justice, fairness, peace, and democracy - both here and abroad. Nobody has fought harder on behalf of the people of South Florida than Congressman Robert Wexler. When we needed someone to speak out on key issues including Medicare and Social Security, the 2000 presidential recount, the fight for a paper trail for voting machines, or helping homeowners afflicted with Chinese Drywall - Robert has been South Florida's voice in Congress.
"Robert's dedication to the Middle East peace process and his commitment to the security of Israel has been a hallmark of his Congressional service. His expertise and his significant influence in Israel, the greater Middle East, Europe, and the White House is a testament to his ability to make a genuine difference on these issues. By accepting the presidency of the Center for Middle East Peace, Robert will bring his passion to an essential cause and do his part to bring us closer to ultimate success.
"Although I am saddened to see him leave Congress, I congratulate Congressman Wexler, thank him for his two decades of dedication service to our community, and wish him great luck in his important undertaking. I know Robert Wexler's commitment to Israel's security will provide dividends at the Center for Middle East Peace."
yeah, Deutch is vanilla enough to be made into a wexler-esque caste. It fits, and he supports most of the main topic points. He'll be in there long enough to get comfortable, though whether it's as long as Wexler's reign remains to be seen.
The question that no one's been asking is this- who takes Ted's seat? Irv will want to go for it, because lets face it- what else would he be doing? He's an unstable character, no credible endorsements, plus he may not have an extra 3 million dollars to throw out at another losing campaign. Point is, there may not be enough bagels he can buy this time around.
Sachs is the best option. she can talk the district 30 talk, she's from the Palm Beach side, she'd be comfortable in the district, and she's got her name out there. She put in enough time on the House side w/ 2 terms and a few good laws passed. But really, too much fun to see an articulate woman up against Irv.
Just get him angry and he starts to splutter all over the place.
Deutch will be our next Congressman.
Graber is lying through his teeth when he claims that he uncovered the Wexler residency issue. It was Ed Lynch who did it, and Graber knows it. I heard that Graber tried to talk Ed Lynch out of running against Wexler during the last election with a promise of a position in his congressional office if Graber won. Ed turned him down and ended up getting more votes than Graber anyway. Graber should throw in the towel now before he embarrasses himself again with another losing campaign. I know Ed Lynch, and he is a true political outsider (I'd even go so far as to say a genuine "maverick") who is untainted by the culture of corruption in South Florida, and he should be given serious consideration by the press if he runs again.
