Will Former Coral Ridge Presbyterian Members Enlist With Radical Media Group?

• I just heard the "fear and finance" speech and decided to look into this dangerous sounding group. I'm new to looking into this so I don't know if that is from the original or a splinter group. It reeked to me of raising money in the name of "God" and then clearly handing it over to political causes. The part that really got to me was when the speaker said he was questioned about if/how he really gives 200%. Instead of him explaining if/how he really DOES give 200%, he turned that question into "ah, you don't trust God." How incredibly manipulative!!! It is really sad but I fear that people fall for this and give this man their money. Not once in the entire speech did I hear how/why God needs so much money instead of the "tithe" mentioned by the Bible. God doesn't buy fancy cars ya know. Not once did it mention for the money would be used for. Very sad indeed.

• As a Christian, I do not care for the content of learn2discern. For me it is the same 'americanism' which Kennedy got sidetracked on Not to mention the us people versus those people dialogue which has eroded Christian influence. So it's okay for minorities to be beaten, attacked and discriminated against?? My prayers are with Coral Ridge and the break away groups. But for me, it is about the teachings of Jesus Christ, and not a return to the 'good old days' of Americanism. A return to such days would destroy many groups of people in this country

• One of my favorite spectator sports is to watch the fomenting religious right argue with each other or, in this case, argue that they're so misunderstood and persecuted. They do a poor job of hiding their anger and contempt for all us "non-elect" folks who see the world differently, and still use and read and depend on the same Bible for that outlook. They're right, and everybody else is wrong. To quote Mr. Aman, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and sometimes people can see through the hate-filled rhetoric of the religious right, even when the religious right thinks they've disguised themselves as true Christians.

• Thanks John for correcting the many so obvious errors in Thomas Francis' extremely poor attempt at journalism. Where are today's news REPORTERS, are they all editors now?

• Thomas Francis could have saved himself a lot of time and effort, not to mention the misspent use of his vivid and powerful imagination, had he first consulted with Coral Ridge Ministries before writing this largely erroneous series of speculations. First, let me say that we do appreciate the opportunity he has afforded us to reach a new audience with our Learn2Discern video features, which can be found at www.coralridge.org/l2d. Second, Coral Ridge Ministries is not a "radical media group," whatever that means, but a national media outreach founded by the late Dr. D. James Kennedy in 1974. Now celebrating our 35th year, Coral Ridge Ministries is an award-winning Christian outreach that brings the gospel of Jesus Christ and a biblical moral witness to the nation via radio, television, Internet, and print. Our TV programming is available to about 87 percent of the nation, bringing the messages of Dr. Kennedy and hard-hitting documentaries, like the just-aired Radical Islam on the March, to our coast-to-coast audience. In addition, we are members in good standing of the Evangelical Council on Financial Accountability. Third, Mr. Francis passes along misinformation when he states that "the nationally syndicated program [Coral Ridge Hour] was canceled by the church [Coral Ridge Presbyterian] this past year. The program has since been scooped up by Coral Ridge Ministries." That's completely false. Coral Ridge Ministries launched The Coral Ridge Hour in 1978 and it has been on the air ever since. The church didn't cancel The Coral Ridge Hour, nor could it, since as Mr. Francis does correctly state (Thank you!), Coral Ridge Ministries is a "separate entity" from the church. What he didn't add is that we have been separate and distinct from the church since 1994, a long, long time ago. Fourth, John Rabe's Learn2Discern segment about the implications of Martin Luther's courageous stand for biblical truth in the 16th century is not a veiled appeal (please!) to people who have left Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. It really is a statement about the implications of the Reformation designed for a national audience and timed to air just as we (at least some of us) celebrate Reformation Day October 31. To quote Freud, in an entirely different context, sometimes a cigar.... Finally, Mr. Francis' parting shot about the Anti-Defamation League fails to tell readers that the ADL's misinformed blast came before it had even seen our documentary, Darwin's Deadly Legacy, which connects the dots between Darwin ideas and Hitler's deeds. That's a thesis, by the way, with enormous historical support, much of which is laid out in Richard Weikart's book, From Darwin to Hitler. Francis also failed to mention that Orthodox Rabbi Daniel Lapin issued an eloquent defense of Coral Ridge Ministries, stating, among other things, that �On behalf of all those American Jews who feel misrepresented by the ADL, I apologize to Dr. D. James Kennedy for [Abe] Foxman�s ad hominem attack. Dr. Kennedy has always been friendly and supportive towards Jews and has courageously defended the Biblical values shared by both Judaism and Christianity.� I think that just about covers it.
