West Palm Beach Man Arrested in Giant Drug Trafficking Ring
Hopeton Joseph Reid, of West Palm Beach, was one of 16 men arrested in Texas last week in connection with what authorities are calling a "major drug ring" that allegedly moved tons of marijuana from Mexico across the U.S.
A grand jury in Houston indicted all 16 individuals on August 5 after an investigation that involved the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and several local police forces in South and East Texas.
A source at the FBI says investigators believe that Reid was a driver in the organization, and he was arrested with more than 1,500 pounds of pot. In total, authorities collected more than 1,000 kilos of the green in last week's bust. One of the men arrested, Christopher Fillmore, was a Houston firefighter.
Calls to a West Palm Beach number listed for Reid were not returned.
If convicted, each defendant could face life in prison.
