Schoolchildren are particularly threatened by a pandemic like H1N1, so it kinda sucks that in Broward 58 schools are switching from registered nurses to less-trained but cheaper health techs, as Bob LeMendola and Kathy Bushouse write in today's Sun-Sentinel. Would this be a bad time to remind folks of how Norman found the school district wasted hundreds of millions of dollars building stuff they didn't need?
It's been two years since the horrifying murders of Nancy and Joey Bochicchio at Boca Town Center, and still there's fear, judging by the apparent false alarm of a woman who believed the same man was after her. But Christina DeNardo reports in the Palm Beach Post that police doubt the two incidents are the same guy.

In Broward Circuit Court yesterday Leon Barbanell won $5.3 million from Phillip Morris for the death-by-smoking of his wife Shirley, 13 years ago when she was 73. But as Carol Marbin Miller reports in the Miami Herald, the tobacco company will appeal, which means Barbanell, who's 92, will have to wait to spend his tobacco bucks.
