On this blog, we've teased our own local airline, Spirit, for its using sex to get consumers' attention, though its own efforts tend to be either tawdry or merely sophomoric. The genius of Air New Zealand's ad is that it promotes safety, not ticket sales. It's hard to tell whether Spirit's own sexy campaign has helped ticket sales; it's definitely convinced national media to write about it -- most recently USA Today.
So it'll be interesting to see how Spirit reacts to this threat of another airline exploiting sex appeal. Another guess: Whatever it is, it'll be way raunchier than the video above.
