Deerfield Beach Commission Will Not Be Tricked Into Broadcasting Hardcore Porn

A source with knowledge of these things tells Juice that Deerfield Beach City Hall has decided on a new policy regarding video presentations at its commission meetings: Since pornography sometimes appears in video form, and since the city's government does not trust one particular citizen's video submissions, it will henceforth ban all video presentations by the public.

The solitary citizen to blame for this draconian policy is, of course, Chaz Stevens, who sparked a debate Tuesday night when his spokesman, a ninja named Jim, asked city staff to play this (safe-for-work) DVD Stevens had prepared. Mayor Peggy Noland warned her fellow commissioners that it might contain porn, and while the city attorney cautioned commissioners against singling out Stevens' video, the officials ultimately decided that it would show only videos with content vetted in advance for offensive material.

Except that according to the Juice source, the city believes Stevens possesses the technical know-how to create a DVD that appears harmless on first viewing but that can transform into highly offensive material the moment before a city staffer puts it on the big screen.

Asked to account for this paranoia, Stevens himself guesses it's because of a prank he played on the mayor. Having guessed the IP address for the computer that Noland uses at City Hall, Stevens calibrated his blog so that every time Noland's computer tried to access the site, it bounced her to the foulest, most degrading porn site he could find. (Suffice to say it's German and scatological.)

"It's gonna be a problem for them," says Stevens. "This is a clear violation of my rights as a blogger. It's an infringement on my constitutional rights. It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous."
