May Day: Hospital District to Rid Self of All Sordid Business This Month

Categories: Broward, Business
Last week, when it came out that North Broward Hospital District General Counsel Marc Goldstone was allegedly practicing law without a Florida license, it seems commissioners had a good excuse (shock, to name one) to procrastinate dealing with the scandal of the previous week: an investigator's finding that Commissioner Joseph Cobo may have broken state ethics laws.

Then again, why not swallow this yucky medicine in one big gulp?

The hospital district now has a general counsel in Sam Goren who really can practice in Florida. He should be able to advise the commission as to its handling of the Cobo mess -- provided he's not too busy dealing with the legal ramifications of one of the nation's biggest public health care districts using an unlicensed lawyer for six months.

Or at least it's worth a try: A district spokeswoman says the commission will address the Cobo matter at the May 27 meeting, as originally scheduled. June couldn't possibly be worse, could it?
