But then, in a nation where a blind man governs New York and a black family occupies the White House, it seems like everything has been done. Oh, but it hasn't. And Lake Worth can be the city that takes the following multicultural leaps:
- An African Pygmy as recreation manager. Here's a pint-sized population with a peace-loving culture but a history marred by discrimination -- even genocide. In DR Congo, it's said that Pygmies were hunted like animals.
- A zoo as human resources manager. Regular readers of the Juice know that zoos are the new frontier in the political battle over sexual orientation. How remarkable it would be for Lake Worth to appoint an open zoo at a time when a Sunrise legislator, Sen. Nan Rich, is trying to pass a bill that would make sex with animals a felony.
- A robot mayor. If robots are going to challenge humans for world supremacy, why can't there be a peaceful transfer of power, with Lake Worth leading the way? Surely, a robot can be programmed to avoid conflicts of interest, to render decisions based on a dispassionate calculation of what policy promotes the greatest good. To put it another way: Would a robot not make a better Broward mayor than the current one, Stacy Ritter? Undoubtedly. (Unless, of course, you subscribe to the theory that Ritter is the robot creation of husband/lobbyist Russ Klenet.)
