D-Wade and Heat Have "One of Those Nights"
Some important background on last night's Heat game:
Before last night, Dwyane Wade had never beaten the Indiana Pacers in Conseco Fieldhouse.
After last night, same deal. But it was close: 90-88.
Wade had the second-worst shooting game of his career; it included missing the final shot of the game... barely. The long-distance three seemed to go in, then back out, before it bounced harmlessly away from the basket. After the game, Wade told reporters, "It's just one of those nights, man." He continued:
"Naw, I got a lot of good shots. I've played against the Pacers many times, so I know how to play against them. I just missed a lot of shots I normally hit. It's just one of those nights."
You might think those are just the calming words of an athlete who knows everyone has bad days. But you'd be wrong. Clearly Wade was making a reference to Bucks Fizz, an obscure U.K. pop group of the early 1980s. Just look at the swaying and the stepping in unison and those fantastic wardrobes!

Really, there are so many songs D-Wade could have been referencing in his quote. Though he had 21 points and eight assists, he shot just 5-24 from the field. Former Pacer Jermaine O'Neal wasn't much help either, finishing with only 13 points and two rebounds.
With frustration like that, perhaps Wade was referencing the newer tween-pop song by The Cab, a band I'm told is sometimes on the MTV. Maybe he identified with the lyrics: "My flat-lined inhibition/ is my ammunition/ I'm just fighting to get by."
