Darwin Day: Come for the Sensible Scientific Debate, Stay for the Bumper Stickers

Darwin_ape.jpg
This is a very special year for skeptics, atheists, secularists, and the the world's most fervent evolution-promoting intectualists. February 12 marks what would have been Charles Darwin's 200th birthday...had he better adapted to his environment and not died 127 years ago. This is also the 150th anniversary of the publication of Darwin's most famous work, Origin of the Species.

I went to Darwin Day Broward in Davie this weekend, hosted by Florida Atheists and Secular Humanists and the Center for Inquiry Fort Lauderdale. There were dozens of happy, wholesome heathen families in attendance, a barbecue lunch, and lectures on everything ranging from global warming to the foibles of so-called "Intelligent Desgin" theories. They even raffled off a cruise to the Galapagos Islands, where Darwin did the research that made him a god to atheists for generations.

Sure, I liked the rational thought and discussion (and nature walk), but the real entertainment was in the parking lot. For my money, nobody does clever bumper stickers like nerdy atheists.

My favorite might be the Darwin fish humping the Jesus fish or the witty snap at Suburbia or the Jesus fish that learned to use tools. Jump for a few of the best.

A few of the divinely-inspired skeptic stickers:

The driver of this car must have been lost and confused. Or will have some explaining to do at church next Sunday.

That's right. He doesn't believe in God, but he does believe in aliens.
