(there will be problems - with progress) 3. McCain will then confer with Dems (if they're dumb enough to buy into the script) 4. McCain AND PALIN will be Conservative GOPs. (BY THIS IT WILL BE AROUND 4 OR 5 PM FRIDAY AND THE MEDIA WILL BE GOING BOZO-FRANTIC AS THE DEBATE WILL STILL BE SCHEDULED -- BUT WITH NO WORD FROM MCCAIN.) MUSIC UP: 5. WITH PLAIN AT HIS SIDE AND GOD AT HERS, JOHN MCCAIN WILL HOLD AT LAST MINUTE PRESS CONFERENCE WITH GOP CONSERVATIVES TO ANNOUNCE HE AND HIS HOCKEY MOM HAVE BROKERED A DEAL TO SAVE THE COUNTRY WITH THE HELP OF JESUS. Which brings to mind another bit of trivia: Has anyone ever noticed how, as an Annapolis-trained Naval officer, John McCain was never responsible for the the lives of other men? Fact is, during his entire military career, McCain fought his battles alone (with great heroism, yes) in combat at 30,000 feet over Vietnam, or in a prison cell. Not sure what this means. But it's clearly a matter to ponder when it it comes to McCain as the potential leader of the world's most powerful collapsing nation. Also, having met at least three or four black people in my life, I found that our culture had forced ALL of them to learn how to work with others in order to survive. Which again, is a matter to ponder in the case of Barak Obama. Because right now we need a man who has learned how to work well and build a consensus with others in Harvard, the corporate board room, the hardball politics of Chicag and on the mean streets of ghetto -- as opposed to a courageous combat pilot who know how to fight alone. Oh yes. In comparing the diverse metaphors inherent in the life histories of Sarah Pilan and Joe Biden ..... Well, at least we know who has learned not to blink in the path of an oncoming train. Which, I suppose is something.

• It does not matter who gets elected this Nov. If this bailout plan passes (and it will), the next administration will not be able to afford anything grandiose to "change" anything much. And if Congress doesn't pass the bailout plan, well ... it doesn't matter who our next President will be; we'll all be more concerned about being in time for the soup lines every morning to care about anything else.

This position can be ridiculed from two perspectives. First, one Senator, no matter how brilliant or in this case, dumb, cannot have any affect on the economy. But that is the easy one. Is the condition of this country so dire that it justifies the suspension of a presidential candidacy six weeks from election? If the answer is yes, what should have been the appropriate response of say, Lincoln in 1864, or FDR in 1944, or Madison in 1812, Hoover in 1932. McCain's stupidity (there is no other word for it) is a sign of weakness. His people believe the election is over unless he can pull off a Hail Mary pass. He is going down in the polls because of this economic uncertainty. So he has decided to take the American people as fools. He fooled them once with his idiotic campaign finance reform, aka the repeal the First Amendment Act, but he will not get away with it this time. As if he really thinks the average American thinks he is going to Washington to shed himself of any pretense of partisanship and work tirelessly on their behalf to improve their financial lot. What nonsense. If you are going to rely on gimmicks, might as well use one that will at least rewards your most loyal supporters: the single minded white male. Get Sarah to pose naked for Penthouse!
