With the dearth of information coming from the Plantation Police Department regarding the murder of attorney Melissa Lewis, I figure that even clarifying what did not happen is worth reporting here.
And one thing that did not happen, according to police spokesman Phil Toman, is a sexual assault.
I called Toman after a source from officialdom told me that a rape was involved in the horrible crime that may have originated at the Plantation Publix store. Toman (who happens to be the son of Sun-Sentinel photographer Lou Toman) was unambiguous in his answer.
"Your source is horrible," he said. "It's false."

Wow Pulp. This is a horrible tragedy which you've spent lots of time speculating on with no real facts to go on.
And now, your source here like most of your other sources turns out to be "horrible".
I am all for investigative reporting, but what has been going on with the news reports over this matter go well-beyond that to total tabloid journalism.
Conduct your investigation and report some FACTS if you get them. How is it news to say that an inflammatory tip you received was horribly wrong.
Don't exploit the story beyond that which the media has already done.
She doesn't deserve it.
