Free John Rodstrom!

Sat Mar 22, 2008 at 07:57:36 PM

The Sun-Sentinel's Scott Wyman has an interesting story this morning about the black newspaper Westside Gazette supposedly excluding white candidates from its political forum.

Seems white commissioner John Rodstrom is all atitter about being excluded. Oh, poor John. The troubles he's seen! When are the discrimination laws in this country going to protect rich white men?

It's all quite lovely idiocy, especially coming from Rodstrom, who gave up any hope of winning black votes years ago. Plus, Sheriff's candidate Scott Israel and Shak Dhangi, neither of whom are black, were at the forum, which, oh, I don't know, seems to hurt the premise that no white candidates were allowed. And then Rodstrom has the cajones to bring his campaign manager, Judy Stern, into Scott Wyman's story to complain that Gazette Publisher Bobby Henry told her that Jews excluded other candidates all the time.

This is the lowest form of divisive, dirty politics I've seen in a while and it's coming not from Henry (of whom I'm no fan, read this for proof), but from Rodstrom. You know what the better story is? That Rodstrom's campaign manager is Judy Stern -- the most active and influential lobbyist at the Broward County Commission.

Here's a better story, Scott. Research all the issues on the commission involving Stern's clients and see which way Rodstrom voted. That might drum up some genuine outrage.

UPDATED: Check out the Sun-Sentinel comment board beneath Wyman's story. Apparently there really was outrage. The thing unleashed the half-baked white supremacist crowd in a big way. Some examples of what they had to say:

"Blacks are a race of predigest, bigoted, racists confirmed as inadequate by Affirmative Action."

"You don't want darkie answering the phone at 3am; he's either getting his freak on or his chicken on..."

"The more black Americans open their mouths the more ignorant they sound, if that's possible. Blacks are constantly proving time and again they are some of the most racist people here in America. When is white America going to wake up and stop appeasing this low achieving race of people?"

"the typical black person is way to bold these days. they have become very mean and prejudice.they need to mind their manners."

"There is a reason no black man has ever been elected as President, look at them when they become Mayors, or any other elected official. They can't stop from being extremely corrupt and racist!"

"So many cruise ships available to take these unhappy blacks back to their home (Africa). The American public is sick of reading and hearing about how they (blacks) want it all, but hate America."

And on and on. Way to get an intelligent dialogue going, Sun-Sentinel.

John Rodstrom has no shame - he will defame and belittle any and all that don't support him. He and Judy Stern have a long history that uses the "take no prisioners" approach to campaigning and hopefully this round will take him and his influence peddling friends out of office! He doesn't deliver on what he promises unless it benefits him personally. Check the number of times he is away from his seat at Commission during votes - for which we as the public pay him $92K a year to do! He was recently heard saying that he left the dais because he had "calls to make - he had to make a living!" Well - isn't that what we pay him to do? He needs to decide what job he wants and give it his attention.

If you know Bobby Henry at all - the comments uttered by Stern sound false...evey time there has been an event in the past at the African American Library - neither John or his wife had found it necessary to participate.....guess it isn't in the part of their districts that are productive or incrase their "income". I hope this round the public will decide this guy isn't protecting them but feathering his own next.

a wee bit political are we? i think you mischaracterize John Rodstrom there. other than the miami airport deal (a serious matter) what other instances of rodstrom benefitting himself personally do you have to back that up?

Jack says:

It would be worth following the trail to the convention center hotel and affiliation with Hilton and their lobbyist - Judy Stern.....the list of beneficial decisions is greater than one might think - it isn't just the airport....now it is the seaport, the hotels coming on line and their related bond issues.......are you getting the drift....

I had the drift; Rodstrom is too cozy with Stern. But I don't see any evidence that he's profiting personally.

Well at least none of Russ Kelnet's clients benefit from his wife on the dais. Wonder why Bob gives them a pass?
Last I checked Judy lost the hotel vote, guess not all powerful. Then again she must have scared someone to falsify her letterhead and try to smear her to her clients. Right bob?

Pulp says:

I've given Stacy Ritter and Russ Klenet a pass? Not quite -- I dug up their conflicts and wrote about them several times last year. And I first wrote about the smear job that was done on Stern on this blog. Your comment encapsulates the problems with Broward: thin skin, bad information, and childish power-hungry cliques gone awry. Someday this town is going to grow up, but first it needs an enema.

Dear Bob says:

Can you please tell me what place in your view is so much better off then Broward? Yes, it has its corruption and power brokers, where is the utopia you are apparently aware of that should serve as a model for us all? If you get rid of one set of politicians and power borkers a fresh new set will follow. You know what eventually happens after you have an enema? You have to eventually shit again. Grow up Bob, there is always going to be shit, if not you would be out of work.

what a shock Bob fails to respond to a legit question when posed?

Pulp says:

What place is better off than Broward in terms of political no-nos? I don't know, how about Dayton Ohio? Pick a city. Miami-Dade and Chicago are up there and Wall Street is more corrupt than any government. Other than that, I got even money says our fair county beats most anything other place.

And I'm not saying that John Rodstrom needs to go. On the contrary, I think he's an important voice for slow growth.

As for the enema-only-leads-to-more-shitting theory, well you're right. But I've noticed that after good cleansings of some corruptos at the North Broward Hospital District, Pompano, and Hollywood, things have gotten slightly better. It's a gradual thing.
