Bad Week For Boat Captains

Another South Florida boat captain disappears from his vessel, this time due to bad weather rather than a pervert-fugitive. This after yesterday's Sun-Sentinel was dominated by stories about fears running high in the charter boat industry. The disappearance of Lindsay Forde is a horrible thing, but why the hell wasn't he wearing a life jacket? Are they just for civilian sissies?

In other news the North Broward Hospital District changed its name to "Broward Health." I can see why Alan Levine did it: The name has taken a drubbing in recent years in the press for corruption and, gosh, the old name sounds so governmently and clunky-like. Now it can overpay prima donna doctors (legends in their own mind like heart surgeon Michael Chizner) and people might think the waste is subsidized by our tax dollars. Wouldn't it be nice if the district (yeah I'm not going to stop calling it that) would focus less on its botched attempt to take over the private health market and just do what it was created to do: Provide health care to the poor.

And finally, the Miami Herald's Natalie P. McNeal reports that Lauderdale-By-The-Sea looks to be dropping BSO like a bad habit. King Ken is dethroned and now the empire Jenne built is starting to crumble.

Bob- When you first exposed the District and kept the pressure on them, I thought that was great. But now you're ridiculous. You accomplished something. They've revamped how they handle and report their finances. And now they're trying to act like a responsible business - attract more private patients so that they can do their job - take care of the poor and provide services that no one else does. And you're still on their case. I guess you're not really interested in actual merits. You just like putting people down whether they deserve it or not. Get a life.
Chaz, The best you can do my attempts at logical arguments is mindless drivel(Rice is SOS and has nothing to do with domestic policy) and insults. I rest my case. Want to talk about how good or bad Bush and the administration is, try some facts rather than patheticly wrong comments and insults. BTW I've given the President multiple Knucklehead awards at my blog. I've criticized Bush over Iraq, AG Gonzalez, and other issues. My party affiliation is Democrat, though I'm more conservative than most members of the party. My views on the minimum wage, GLBT issues, immigration are hardly in line with conservatives or Republicans. Bob and I met less than a year ago(You apparently can't read, I said I was in the Navy in 79-89) and have exchanged emails sometimes. We don't see eye to eye, but Bob enjoys my blog. Bill; Props to you for not mentioning Condi Rice's Jimmy Choos shopping spree during our nation's worst natural disaster. Getting called into the office is a real bummer when Barni's is having their end of year shoe sale. Extra credit moral relativism bonus points for comparing the actions of President Shrub to those in Congress. Would have been worth 10x more had anyone taken any of those nitwits seriously. Well, if the District just takes care of the poor and doesn't do something to earn privately insured business, then they will have to increase taxes to pay the increasing cost, while the other hospitals like holy cross, hca and tenet run off with all the private paying business. I think it makes sense to try and earn paying business. Also, remember, the district just lowered taxes AGAIN, to the lowest rate in 25 years. So give credit where its due.

Maybe someone ought to look into the fact that the general counsel for Broward Health has taken off almost 3 months for personal/sick days including this etire month. No one else gets to work 9 months a year
