Buddy Nevins Sues Bob Norman/Village Voice Media

• Is this the guy behind the pot shot, smear website watchingtamarac.com trying to influence the outcome of one race? Is this the same guy at browardbeat.com who "discovered" Stacy Ritter "was much more than just a babe" and "eagerly found ways to cover every aspect of her campaign!" • UK FAN: I'd advise Bob to prepare for a settlement... You would be correct for libel, but invasion of privacy/false light and defemation have a much lower standard and only really need identification (check) and dissemination (check). This is a blog about journalism. Didn't anyone here take Media Law 101?

• I predict that it will never make it to trial. Nevins couldn't possibly allow himself to testify under oath to his hackitude and journalmalism. Good luck, Pulpio!

• Liable law? Plausable? Geez, old hack, no wonder this business is doing a crash and burn. Pulp, you sound genuinely surprised that people hurt when you whack them in print. You gave Buddy a good pummeling. Now he has found an opening and is giving you one back. Sounds fair to me. When you're a street fighter, you have to learn to take punches as well as throw them. It's a shame, though, that the lawyers are the ones who will really benefit from this squabble.

• Nevins had his face plastered in a column in the Sentinel at least once a week for years. He most likely qualifies as a "public person" under liable law, which means he has to prove malice and recklessness, i.e., that Norman knew or had reason to believe the facts were untrue. While Nevins took a buy-out, it is entirely plausable that he was "encouraged" to do so by S-S management, lest he be targeted in any future job cuts, reassignments, layoffs, etc. Basically, you can jump or be pushed, or end up as a clerical asst. on the Help Team.

• To pevail in court, Buddy must (a) prove that Bob acted with malice aforethought and (b) that Buddy suffered actual damages as a proximate result of Bob's writings. I see no evidence that he can establish either beyond a preponderance of the evidence. I'd advise Bob to prepare for a countersuit. Buena suerte, amigo!

• Didn't you first expose the fact that Buddy was proudly declaring himself a card-carrying member of the Republican party? He's probably still smarting over that. In any case, I think it's crappy for a journalist to sue a fellow journalist: They know what this biz is about...

• Looks like ol' Buddy could dish it out but ...

• Good Luck to you! I am still the recipient of one remaining amended count in a SLAPP suit along with a fellow former Planning and Zoning Board member in Lauderdale By The Sea!(The original charges were dropped). In fact my fellow board member is also being sued for sending a totally innocuous email to a news outlet that never even saw the light of day!(For a real eye opener google SLAPP suit). This stuff goes right up there with the current story of the 67 million dollar pants, the judge and the cleaners! Good luck with Judge Goldstein, he sided with our small citizens initiative group 2 out of 3 times!

• Is this an attempt by Nevins to continue to be read in the Sun Sentinel.....perhaps his concerns should center on why the public believe it all to be true. Buddy has had some great columns over the years but in recent ones his integrity as a journalist turned more to tabloid reporting with a personal bias...a loss for the public and for him as well. It is interesting that Bob Norman's comments sting - must be too close to home.

• There are many people in Broward who would like to see Bob stop exposing corruption.I doubt that will happen.
