Digging Into A Smear

• That's not true, Woodstein. It would be the second time. The truth is that we'll probably never know the truth. It's a reporter-source thing and the source is a political operative. That much is for sure. No one is going to admit it. Was it the original suspect? Well, a source has compelling evidence that it was. Was it someone else? Well, there's a strong circumstantial case that it might have been. I'm investigating. Say what you will, but the paramount thing I care about -- and have always cared about -- is the truth. If there's even a chance that I might be wrong, I'm going to do everything I can to make it right, and I'm certainly not going to perpetuate something that might be false. More on this later. I promise.

• In the world of doublespeak, "I'm getting new information..." is a euphemism for "I might have been mistaken the first time!"

• So, Bob, is that a backhanded admission that you were WRONG, or just feel threatened or chicken? If the Sun-Sentinel did what you did -- post something on their Web site then remove it -- you'd be calling them weak kneed, cowardly, wishy washy, inaccurate -- all those sorts of things. Double standard, my man, double standard!!! I call BS on it!
