Settling The Matter

• Thinking way too much about this... The head was changed because the "Chomp" head was written to complement the photo (of people doing the chomp). The other edition used a later photo, so the pun went with the photo. Nothing more to it than that.

• Goldilocks - don't get all conspiratorial on us. It's usual for online to change print heds. Often, they don't even export to the web publishing system. Often, they don't work for the web. Often, they are just too long. Often, they just suck. Often, it just gives a web editor something to do. That is all.

• If you are intrigued by headline wordplay (or morphing), then try THIS one on for size: Sun Sentinel, front page on Sunday, January 7th, 2007 lead article headline in print edition, "FIASCO IN HOLLYWOOD, An ambitious project to redevelop downtown into an arts center became 'the biggest mistake he City Commission has ever made'". On-line edition of Sun Sentinel, same day, still the lead story, yet headline instead read/reads: "Hollywood leaders want out of deal to redevelop downtown". In the case of "Champions" vs. "Chompions", could be creative wordplay gone awry, misspelling corrected or the like. $64,000 Question: What do you think might have happened to have so signifiantly altered the headline of John Holland's well-researched, insightful, provocative and very powerful factual reportage?
