This Weekend: Langerado Leftovers

modestmouse.jpg
It's Tuesday, so clearly it's time to start looking forward to the weekend. Since Langerado's been canceled, people looking to get their fill of music will have to do a bit more planning and travelling. A few of the bigger bands that were to play Langerado, like the Pogues (March 7th at Pompano Beach Amphitheater), Modest Mouse (March 8th at Revolution Live), Flogging Molly (March 6th at Pompano Beach Amphitheater), Ozomatli (March 7th at the Culture Room), and Girl Talk (March 8th at Culture Room) are all slated to play this weekend throughout South Florida. So pick your poison and show some of these bands that it's worth their time to make the trip down south the next time they tour.

More Langerado Rescheduling: Tokyo Police Club at City Limits, Mar. 8

City Limits, besides snagging Bad Brains, has also grabbed blog darlings Tokyo Police Club to play the same weekend the band would have played Langerado. Unfortunately, the show goes up against two others that night that attract similar fans: Girl Talk and Deerhunter at Culture Room, and Modest Mouse at Revolution.

Still, those latter two are destined to be packed to the gills, so those wishing to avoid sweaty crowds will dig the comfortable, super-clean environment that is City Limits. Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, February 11 at 10 a.m. through City Limits' web site. They cost $15 in advance, $17 day of show. All ages are welcome to this early-evening show -- doors open at 7 p.m.

Bad Brains Bringing '77 Punk Back to City Limits on March 6th

Ask any self-respecting punk rock fan to list his or her top 10 punk bands, and Bad Brains will almost certainly be toward the top. These hardcore punk rock pioneers began playing together as a jazz band with a rough edge and a hint of reggae way back in 1975.

Yet More Langerado Rescheduling: King Khan & the Shrines at the Vagabond, Mar. 7

So far, this is the only Langerado band who's definitely scheduled to play Miami proper.... It's King Khan and the Shrines, a bizarre, garage/Stax-style soul freakout that must be seen to be believed.

They'll take the stage at the Vagabond's weekly Saturday party, Backdoor Bamby, which is usually more house and disco-heavy in the main room. However, the crowd there is always, well, eclectic, so King Khan's freak show should go down pretty well.

Details are still being worked out, but the Vagabond is at 30 NE 11th St., Miami. Backdoor Bamby is always ages 21+ with ID. Check Crossfade again for updated ticket information.

Even More Langerado Rescheduling: Tricky and Modest Mouse Move Shows to Revolution

...No, not together. Tricky takes the stage for a super-rare South Florida appearance on Friday, Mar. 6 at the venue (200 W. Broward Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale). The all-ages show starts at 7 p.m., and tickets cost $22.

Modest Mouse was part of that last, strange announcement of Langerado acts, mere days before the festival was officially cancelled. Well, whatever. The indie-rock juggernaut will touch down on Sunday, Mar. 8 (the same night as the Girl Talk/Deerhunter gig at Culture Room). The show starts at 7 p.m., and tickets cost $29.

Tickets for both shows are on sale now. Visit www.jointherevolution.net

Girl Talk's and Deerhunter's Langerado Show Moved to Culture Room, Sunday, Mar. 8

Now that Langerado's cancelled, expect many of the bands to announce smaller shows throughout South Florida. Word is, booking agents started calling local promoters a few days before the official cancellation announcement. While we'll sadly still miss out, say, on the Pogues and other headliners, keep your fingers crossed for many of the smaller acts who could safely play places like ... oh, Churchill's? The Vagabond? Just a couple of wild guesses.

Here's something that's not a wild guess: Girl Talk will still play that weekend, but now at Culture Room, in Ft. Lauderdale. His last show, at the old Studio A in Miami last year, was packed -- and that place had a capacity almost twice that of Culture Room. And opening up? Deerhunter! The roof is gonna blow off.

The show starts at 8 p.m. that night, and tickets cost $24.99 in advance. They're not on sale yet, so visit www.cultureroom.net often to find out when they're available.

Feeling Festival Loss? Aching For a Road Trip? Harvest of Hope Festival in St. Augustine Fills in Some Langerado Gaps

HOH_Poster_StJohns_FINAL.jpg
Okay, St. Augustine is pretty damn far from here. And half of the bands on the Harvest of Hope festival bill, well, we've never heard of them. However, if you overwhelmed with a sense of loss after Langerado's cancellation, or just feel like a road trip, this one may be worth a look.

A three-day pass right now is only $39.95, and the lineup features many of the biggest bands were set to perform at Langerado: Broken Social Scene, King Khan and the Shrines, DeVotchKa, Bad Brains, Girl Talk, the Faint, the Virgins, Ra Ra Riot, Health, and Holy Fuck among them. Plus, all proceeds benefit the Harvest of Hope Foundation, which provides relief and support for migrant workers. There's also camping, if that's your thing. Visit www.harvestofhopefest.com.

Langerado 2009 Cancelled

langerado2009.jpg
There was a lot of talk this morning of Langerado 2009 being cancelled, but before we started spreading rumors we wanted to hear it directly from the source. Unfortunately, we found out that the rumors were indeed true. There are many probable factors as to why the festival got the ax -- the economy, venue, music format -- but it's still very disappointing to see it go.

Here is the official press release from Madison House Publicity:

Today, the 2009 Langerado Music Festival is cancelled due to sluggish ticket sales.  The 7th annual event was slated to happen March 6-8 at their new home in downtown Miami's Bicentennial Park.

Langerado's independent local promoters, faced with a very tough decision in a dismal economy, cancelled the 2009 event only after every possible option was exhausted.

As Langerado Co-Promoter Ethan Schwartz explains, "Langerado has always put the fan experience first.  Unfortunately, during these difficult economic times, and facing a first year in a new venue, it's become apparent that we cannot execute a production that lives up to the high standards of our past events. Putting Langerado on hold was the toughest decision we have ever had to make.  We are very grateful for the support of the greater-Miami community and the music community during this difficult time."

All tickets purchased will be refunded.  Please look for ticket refunds to be processed in the next 5-7 business days.   Each order will be refunded to the credit card in full, minus the included order processing fees.  Shipping fees will also be credited for those orders that did not select the free shipping promotion.  Visit www.musictoday.com for more information.

Finalists Announced for New Times' Langerado Battle of the Bands

langerado2009.jpg
As Crossfade announced last month, New Times is partnering with Gulfstream Park in a Battle of the Bands; the winner gets to play at the upcoming Langerado music festival. Nine finalists have been chosen. They'll square off, four and five at a time, respectively, on February 7 and February 13. A winner each day will be determined by a panel of judges and audience reaction. The winners of each individual day will go head to head for the judges on February 27. Times for all three competitions are 9 to 11 p.m., and admission is free. Follow the jump to get a quick breakdown of who's in the running.
