Vivian Girls, Exene Cervenka, The Blow at Pulse Miami Art Fair in December

Vivian Girls
The Art Basel Miami Beach music news just keeps coming. This time we've received word that the Vivian Girls, Exene Cervenka and the Blow will be performing at Pulse Miami Art Fair, which moves to Ice Palace Studios this year. Their performances are part of the fair's Pulse Miami Performance Series.

This will mark the Vivian Girls second South Florida performance in the span of a two months. The Brooklyn trio performed at Propaganda in Lake Worth in October. The girls take the stage at Ice Palace December 3.

Cervenka, who is best known as the co-founder of punk rock band X, will be performing December 4. She's released her first solo album since 1991 this year titled Somewhere Gone, so this should be a rare treat.

Finally, Portland musician the Blow will hit the stage December 5. Perhaps the least known of the acts, the Blow creates sweet and hooky-laden indie-pop music.

All the performances are technically free. Once you've paid the admission price to the fair -- $15 for general admission, $10 for students -- you can enjoy the performances at no additional cost. For information, visit pulse-art.com.

What to Hear in Broward and Palm Beach This Weekend

Tonight: The new jam capital of the world, Broward County, welcomes The Radiators to Culture Room. Peaches, who is probably the polar opposite of every jam band ever, is playing Revolution Live. Surf rockers Cutback are playing a rum fueled show at Mai Kai tonight, and reggae masterminds 4th Dimension are at the Dive Bar.

Tomorrow night, if you're not checking out heavy metal dance music in Miami, you can catch the Radiators again at Culture Room, Nuggets at Talent Farm, or City of God at Solid Sound Studios.

Sunday, check out Hit The Lights at Culture Room if you need to end the weekend on a bang or Bernard Allison at Back Room Blues Bar if you're looking to wind it down.

Diesel U:Music with Santigold, Kid Cudi November 17 at Paris Theatre

santigold.jpg
Santigold: She's a lady.
Last time Santigold (a.k.a., Santi White, formerly Santogold) was in Miami, she played at Ultra Music Festival back in March. Unfortunately, she was relegated to an early slot on the first day of the festival, so she played to a sparse crowd. We missed her set all together because it never crossed our minds that the festival organizers would waste her talent by putting her on so early. As we were picking up our press passes, we could hear Santi singing "Creator" from a distance. By the time we arrived to the main stage, Perry Farrell had taken the stage.

But thanks to Diesel, the semi-Euro trashy clothing brand, we'll have another chance to see her perform live. The eclectic artist will hit the Paris Theatre (550 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach) alongside "Day 'n' Nite" singer Kid Cudi November 17. Best part of it all, it's free! The catch? You've got to snatch tickets at one of its stores starting Saturday, November 14 through Tuesday, November 17:
  • Diesel Lincoln Road (933 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach)
  • Diesel Avenutra (19501 Biscayne Boulevard, Aventura)
  • Diesel Miami Beach (801 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach)
  • Bloomingdale's Aventura (men's and women's Diesel Departments) (19555 Biscayne Boulevard, Aventura)
According to the press release, there are a few more (bigger) acts that will be announced soon. Cudi and Santi seem good reason enough to go as is, so we wonder who else will be added on the bill. The event is part of the Diesel U:Music tour that has already made stops in Berlin, New York, London, Paris and Tokyo. The tour wraps November 25 in Sydney.

Lineup Announced for FemmeFest, Friday at Tobacco Road and Saturday at Murphy's

Femmefest.jpg
The Lilith Fair has officially announced 18 dates for 2010, none of which include South Florida. But for the last three years, we've had our own all-women's music fest. FemmeFest has hosted xx-staples like Zombies! Organize!!, Astari Nite, and The State Of in the past. This year the two-day fest will include over 25 bands. The event starts this Friday, November 6 at Tobacco Road, and Murphy's in Boca will play host on Saturday, November 7. Each show is $10.

Full lineup and time slots after the jump.

National Album Review: Soundtrack for The Men Who Stare at Goats (GenArt Screening Tonight)

menwhostareatgoatsflyer.jpg
?It's kinda difficult to take seriously a soundtrack that features components entitled "Jedi Prayer" and "LSD in the Water." Well, British composer Rolfe Kent most likely wouldn't have kept those crazy headings had he expected anybody to stay truly serious while listening. But be assured that Kent, who counts to his credit scores for such astute fare as Sideways and About Schmidt, is indeed serious about his work. At least as serious as the government was when it launched the program that begat The Men Who Stare at Goats

Unless you've been orbiting some other planet for the past few months you've undoubtedly seen the trailer for Grant Heslov's promising paranormal comedy. Since the flick happens to star George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey, and Jeff Bridges, you've probably already made a note to see the movie. And since Heslov happens to be one half of the writing team behind the much-regarded Good Night, and Good Luck (Clooney is the other half), you've probably checked that note twice.

U2 Tickets Go On Sale Monday November 9

Thumbnail image for u22.jpg
Mark your calendars and set your alarms. Next Monday, beginning at 10 a.m. sharp, tickets for the July 9, 2010, U2 show at Land Shark Stadium go on sale.

If you're quick on your feet, you won't have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a good seat either. U2 announced previously that 85 percent of their tickets for this tour will be available for under $100. General admission runs $55 and there will be at least 10,000 tickets for just $30. However, knowing U2's popularity and the proliferation of ticket scalpers, you'll probably have about two minutes to grab these tickets before they sell out and you're forced to find other ways to get tickets.

Be sure to log on to Live Nation's website early Monday morning or get on the phone and call 877-598-8698 or 800-745-3000 if you're planning on attending what will probably be the most epic concert of 2010.

Lady Gaga Adds Second Miami Show, Broward Native Jason DeRulo as Tour Opener

Lady Gaga last performed locally at Revolution.
Lady Gaga's New Year's Eve show at the Knight Center is going to be one hell of a 2009 send-off. So, while tickets are available, all the good ones are long gone (what remains, basically is a bunch of side-view seats). South Florida is full of the pop diva's biggest supporters -- gays, glamazons, club kids, and so forth -- and she clearly wants to spread the love back. So she's added a second show, on Saturday, June 2, at the same downtown Miami place.

Tickets aren't any cheaper, but for a big pop star's show, they're still reasonably priced. Regular-people tickets range from $23 to $63, although at the lowest tier, at this point all that's left is, again, that dreaded side-view. For the truly obsessed, there are still plenty of "Hot Seat" ticket packages for $240 -- premium reserved seats and some other goodies -- but the "Meet and Greet" tickets are already all gone, sorry.

And to think, just a few months ago, she was playing Revolution. (Click here to check out our slideshow from that gig.)

The other piece of local-interest news related to this show is Gaga's choice of opener, Jason DeRulo, who she's upgraded to the opening slot for the entire tour.

Throwback Video: Dimebag Shreds with Pantera Live in West Palm Beach 1997

Dimebag Darrell lives!

Every last tiny speck of brain matter splatted against the Columbus, Ohio stage he was riffing on when he was killed by a crazed gunman may have already been sold on Ebay, but the legend of Dimebag lives on through recorded documentation of his music.

The video above features Dimebag Darrel shredding with Pantera in West Palm Beach in 1997. According to the upload description "rex, vince and phil kick ass too!"

Dashboard Confessional Postpones Tour; Show with NFG at Pompano Beach on Nov. 27 is Off

dashboardnewcover.jpg
The upcoming national outing headlined by New Found Glory and Dashboard Confessional was going to be a showcase of '90s Broward and Palm Beach County heroes made good. But this past Friday, Dashboard had to suddenly drop off the tour, which was scheduled to land locally at Pompano Beach Amphitheater on November 27. And with Dashboard off, the whole tour -- which was also to feature much younger acts like Never Shout Never, Meg & Dia, and Single File -- is also off. Here's a statement from the band:

"Due to a family situation that is beyond our control, we have to cancel our upcoming tour with New Found Glory, Never Shout Never, Meg & Dia and Single File. We don't take this lightly but family has to come first. As this is a last minute development, we are still figuring out what we will do- as soon as we know, you will know. We apologize to everyone who planned on coming to the shows. We will find a way to make it up to you." Chris, John, Scott, Mike / Dashboard Confessional.

The band does plan, right now, to reschedule the tour for some time in 2010. Refunds are available at point of purchase.
