Nine Inch Nails Gives Away New Album for Free

While record companies and artists are still try to figure out how to use this new medium called the Internet, Nine Inch Nails has given up on the pay-what-you-wish method pioneered by Radiohead. Instead, front man Trent Reznor decided the best things in life are free, and with that yesterday he quietly released the band’s seventh studio album The Slip.
In the past, digital releases given out free were usually low-quality MP3 files, but Reznor has given fans four options including a better-than-CD-quality WAVE files. For those still attached to the CD format, the album will be available for purchase in July. But for those of us who have accepted the Internet as our new music store, the album is available for download here.
This release comes on the heels of Reznor’s March release, Ghosts I-IV, an instrumental album that was given out free and available for purchase as well.
