News Flash: Rihanna smokes reefer.
Busted!

Reefer maniac and pop-R&B sensation Rihanna is now among the hallowed ranks of musical celebrities with tours derailed by drug-sniffing dogs.

TMZ reports that ten of the caravan's buses were stopped on the border between Michigan and Canada and that when officers smelled weed, the routine stop evolved into a bus-by-bus search with pups searching for pot.

Which they found.

Rapper Gunplay on Dropped Charges: "First Thing I Am Going to Do Today Is Smoke a Joint"

Gunplay is off da hook.
Sometimes you end up in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong people. And subsequently arrested, tried, and sent up the river for being a shmuck who couldn't prove they were innocent even though they were.

Other times, criminals get away with shit in broad daylight. This is usually due to a technicality.

When it comes to Def Jam and Maybach Music Group recording artist (and Carol City native) Gunplay (a.k.a. Richard Morales Jr.) and his recent assault charges, it seems like the Teflon Don padawan is all about door number two. More »

Harley Flanagan, Cro-Mags Founder, Goes on Stabbing and Biting Rampage

Before6.jpg
He used to be such a sweet hardcore kid

News sources have been reporting on Cro-Mags founder and bassist, Harley Flanagan, going on an inspired stabbing and biting melee in the VIP area of the Webster Hall during the CBGB Festival this past July 6. The 42-year old punk rocker, MMA enthusiast, and Krishna follower supposedly gained access to the VIP section of the venue with his CBGB pass that he was entitled to use thanks in part to a panel discussion he had been a part of the day prior.

All this PMA allegedly stems from his exclusion from performing with the Cro-Mags during this particular festival and to try and explain how this band has juggled lineups since its inception in 1981 would be far too long-winded for these digital pages. We can just assume that at this moment, Flanagan is probably not getting along with John Joseph and that only one version of the Cro-Mags is performing.

The two victims of Flanagan's attack are William Berario who received a cut above his eye as well as bites on the face (Bath salts? Weed? Cannibalism du jour?) and current Cro-Mags bass player, Michael "The Gook" Couls. Coincidence? Hmmm...

Categories: True Crime
laz.jpg
Damn, chico! DJ Laz, the man who kept much of South Florida sane and entertained during our commutes, is connected with a murder-suicide that occurred last weekend. Our news-breaking brothers at Riptide reported that "The gun used in the Sunday murder-suicide was Laz's semiautomatic small-caliber pistol. [Laz] contacted police after hearing about the incident and discovering that one of his guns had gone missing."

Lazaro Mendez has been a staple on South Florida radio for decades. His classic Mega Mixes and Traffic Jams set the standard for Miami house-party DJs. His work with Pitbull, Gloria Estefan, and 1-800 Need Help TV spots have increased his profile in the past ten years.

No, Big Boi was not carrying any assault rifles at the time of arrest.
Outkast's Big Boi was arrested in Miami Sunday afternoon facing felony drug possession charges, according to Miami-Dade Corrections. According to TMZ, the rapper (real name Antwan Patton) was busted by customs and border patrol when exiting a cruise with his family and the other half of Outkast, Andre 3000.

Update: He has since been released.

His partner in rhyme famously rapped "No drugs or alcohol so I can get the signal clear as day" back on the duo's 1996 hit "ATLiens" and has kept that a part of his lifestyle ever since, but Daddy Fat Sax reportedly had controlled substances MDMA powder, ecstasy pills, and Viagra (no prescription) on his person. Each carries a separate charge of possession of a controlled substance, and he was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lil Wayne knows what's up in SoFla sports
Just when you thought the LeBron-Bosh-Wade water-cooler talk was dying down, BAM -- it hit the prisons. Reporting (live!) from Rikers Island, inmate #02516544L -- more commonly known as Lil Wayne -- weighed in on his blog today about LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade's decision to join the Miami Heat:

"I believe that this Miami team will be explosive as intended. Anything less than an NBA championship title will be uncivilized," he wrote. "72-10 anybody? Well with Wade at the 1 and Lebron at the 2 or vice versa even, or Mario Chalmers at the 1, Wade at the 2, and Bron at the 3... Wow!"

His tips on how to make it happen, and more, after the jump:

Vince Neil, Motley Crue Frontman and WPB Bar Owner, Arrested for DUI

Vince Neil's mugshot
When you write a song called "Dr. Feelgood," you have to be careful: From then on out, anything bad that happens to you is ripe for puns by late-day reporters (hello there). So, ready for it? Motley Crue frontman and part-owner of Feelgoods, a West Palm nightclub, was arrested in Las Vegas early Monday morning and charged with drunk driving. He must not be feeling so good.

Particularly because Neil has a history of DUIs: In 1984, Neil drunk-drove into another car, killing his passenger, musician Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley, and

Rapper Pitbull Sued in Australia for Allegedly Punking Out on Shows

Yesterday, rapper Pitbull won the keys to the City of Miami for his work "traveling the country and the world sharing a positive message of Miami," according to one city commissioner.

But for all of Mr. 305's postive-image-spreadin' "world-traveling," it's a trip he's accused of not making that's landed him in hot water.

An Australian promoter slapped Pitbull -- real name: Armando Christian Perez -- with a lawsuit this month, claiming that he skipped out on three shows scheduled Down Under in late 2008 and pocketed the advance.

Jaime Fernandez, a Sydney-based promoter who goes by the name DJ Suave, says he booked Pitbull for three Aussie shows last December, in Perth on Dec. 5, Melbourne on the 6th and Sydney on the 7th. Pitbull never showed, he says.

"We did everything we could to make him happy, sometimes even going that extra mile in order to meet his demands," Fernandez tells New Times in an email interview. "But yet he still refused to get on the plane. Not only that, he also failed to notify that he wasn't coming and also kept half the money for doing nothing at all."

Juvenile Loves his Reefer

Categories: True Crime

And it just got him busted yesterday in Hicktown, Mississippi where Juvie was arrested for possession of marijuana. The arrest report was rather vague and stated that the former cash money rapper had "under an ounce" of weed on him. That could mean anything. We'll keep you posted if we here more on this one.

All the real Juvie fans can ride out to this one.

Flo Rida has the #1 Song in the Country

Categories: True Crime

florida%20pic.jpg
Go figure.
But you gotta give credit where its due and as of today, Miami's own Flo Rida has bumped Alicia Keys out of the number one spot on the Billboard charts and his song, "Low" has ascended in its place. It's a proud day for South Florida music fans and it's the second time this year (that I can calculate anyway) that a local has held this position. Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" was at #1 for four weeks earlier this summer. "Low" is a catchy enough tune that he might be able to beat Kingston's streak. Even though the song is probably old to most people, "Low" is finally catching on in other parts of the country so props to Flo Rida for putting Miami on top of the charts again.
