REBEL Release Party - Green Room - May 19

The anticipated delivery of REBEL's new EP Locations was finally actualized at Green Room in Fort Lauderdale this past weekend. The band spent time out of the limelight since last November, but you wouldn't know it by their essentially flawless performance. When we talked with the trio last week, they told us how stoked they were about being able to present their newest venture to a club packed with fans, family, and friends -- the triple-threat of the music world. REBEL turned out a killer live show. The crowd was on their feet before you could say "Who wants another shot?!"More >>

Chris Brown Will Be Rihanna's Next Boyfriend, Say Oddsmakers

Rihanna-Chris-Brown.jpg
Together again?
We're not sure what's going on in Ireland these days, but it must be pretty boring, because the country's largest bookmaker has drawn up extensive odds on who will be Rihanna's next boyfriend.

Paddy Power plc sent us a cheerful press release this morning with the title, "HE RI RI LIKES HER - BROWN FAVOURITE TO WOO RIHANNA."

That's a reference to Chris Brown, Rihanna's onetime domestic abuser and recent Grammy Award ziggurat-hopper. Their possible reunion was considered just days ago on this very blog.

Here's the full list of possible Rihanna suitors and the betting odds:

Bet you're wondering what the hell Luther Campbell is doing right now.

The busy man is probably lounging, sipping a hot cocoa, in Park City, Utah. The father of booty music announced a 2 Live Crew reunion tour this past Saturday from Sundance. He attended the film festival to promote Life and Freaky Times of Uncle Luke, which screened to great reviews.

"Utah and Sundance have welcomed booty bass with open arms," says Jillian Mayer, one of the creators of Life and Freaky Times. The 2 Live Crewer is the star of the short, which takes a very La jetée approach to Campbell's life.

The Beach Boys Reunion: Can They Live Up to Their Legacy?

Categories: Reunited
Beach_Boys_50.jpg
The news that the Beach Boys are reuniting for an album, tour and all the general hoopla that's certain to accompany their 50th anniversary festivities set to start in earnest next year, rings with a certain irony. Not to mention, plenty of marketing manipulation.

Anyone who caught Brian Wilson, the band's former leader and musical mastermind, in concert over the past decade, will find it hard to overlook the fact that he's mostly a propped up figurehead at this point, one who's ceded the vast majority of his musical and vocal duties to his longtime backing band, the Wondermints. Given his inconsistent showing, it remains to be seen how significant a role he'll play with the revamped Beach Boys, especially considering the fact that two of the band's original mainstays -- Brian's brothers Dennis and Carl -- are no longer around and therefore unable to contribute the mix.

Beach Boys Reunite With Brian Wilson for 50th Anniversary

Proof that Brian Wilson is a Beach Boy again.
Yes, this is happening. The Beach Boys have been an entity for 50 years, but their architect Brian Wilson has been absent from the band for the past 15. In honor of hitting the half-century mark, the closest thing to an original lineup -- being that Wilson's brothers Dennis and Carl have passed -- is back together.

Over the years, there have been more "Beach Boys" than volumes of the Encyclopedia Britannica -- Full House star John Stamos prominently among them. Now, it's gonna be Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, and David Marks for a 2012 tour that's scheduled to begin in April at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Since it feels like the Beach Boys come to South Florida about three times a year, here's betting we'll get to see them sometime over the course of those 50 dates.

The Mavericks Reunion at Stagecoach 2012

The Mavericks' Robert Reynolds, Raul Malo, and Paul Deakin.
Those who fondly recall alt-country act the Mavericks' formative days here in South Florida will likely be buoyed by the fact that a reunion is in the works for next April. Three of the band's original members -- singer/songwriter Raul Malo, bassist Robert Reynolds, and drummer Paul Deakin -- reconvene at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California.

The band, whose local success belied the seeming incongruity of being birthed in an area where country and Americana were -- and remain -- something of an anomaly, went on to secure a national recording contract, numerous industry accolades, and worldwide popularity. Several hit records and critically acclaimed albums brought success throughout the '90s and the artistic integrity that enabled them to diversify their sound. Sadly, internal bickering, squabbles with their record label, and Malo's desire to pursue a solo career proved the band's undoing early in the millennium. More >>

Cibo Matto Reunion Tour Deserves a Feast, Here's the Menu

Categories: Reunited

Cibo Matto's brief, but charming run filled the world with the finest Japanese lounge pop about delightful edible creations. With only two full-length albums, 1996's Viva! La Woman and 1999's Stereo * Type A, Yuka Honda and Miho Hatori still managed to corner the enticing market before breaking up in 2001. Even Weird Al Yankovic only occasionally saluted food with such reverence.

With the recent announcement via the duo's new website that Cibo Matto is reforming to record new material scheduled for release in 2012, and for the "YEAH BASICALLY CIBO MATTO" U.S. tour is coming in June and July, it's time to celebrate. Knowing what we know about the Cibo way, it's gonna involve a wild feast that might have you saying "My weight is 300 pounds" by the end. We have the menu with accompanying songs below.

Further Seems Forever Announces South Florida Reunion Date

Further_Seems_Forever.jpg
Starting last year, South Florida emo legends Further Seems Forever slowly let details of the original lineup's reunion slip out. Frontman Chris Carrabba and drummer Steve Kleisath spoke to New Times about the pending unification, but now things are officially taking shape.

As announced and promoted by TheHoneycomb.com, on Thursday, April 14, the band will grace the stage at Lake Worth's Propaganda for a warm-up gig for the ages. When Christine Borges spoke to Carrabba last year amidst his ten-year anniversary of Swiss Army Romance celebration, things were already definitely afoot:

Five National Acts We Hope Will Reunite in 2011

Who's gonna drive you to the box office in 2011?
On Friday, we gave some suggestions for five local bands we'd like to see reunite in 2011; we also want to see some national bands from the rest of America get back together. If last year's Pavement reunion taught us anything, it's that people will travel for thousands of miles to see a band that they love and grew up with.

To some, the Police reunion of 2007 was a dream come true. Despite all the shit-talking and reported in-fighting, they managed to get it together for the sake of big cash. Like we've said before, we don't care what the motivation is; we just want to see the songs we grew up listening to played by the actual people who wrote the songs.

Here are the five acts we'd like to see re-form this year.

5 South Florida Acts We Hope Will Reunite in 2011

We want more Chickenhead!
When the Pixies got back together in 2004, we didn't care if it was about the money. For many of us, the band we grew up listening to had broken up before we were old enough to even ask our parents for a ride to see them play. Yeah, they looked like the kind of hated each other when they were on stage -- but didn't they always?

Now that it's all the rage to reform -- just ask Soundgarden, Blink-182, Pavement, and countless others -- we are not concerned by the motivation. We'll cry "sell out" all we want, but it's hard to pass up seeing a classic band reunited -- if the price is right. And if the band is based in South Florida, transportation and ticket prices are that much more reasonable. Last year, we dug up ten bands we hoped would get back together, and now here's some more.

Here's the first half of the ten bands -- in this case, five local -- that we are lobbying for a 2011 reunion.
