The Sahara Tent at Coachella

Amidst the crazy sea of hipsters, hippies, old folks, pre-teens and babies(!), the first weekend of Coachella was also packed with EDM revelers ready to get their fist-pumping music fix over the course of the three-day bacchanal. In fact, it seems that dance music lovers are growing in numbers so much that every other car in line at the campgrounds checking in on Thursday was blasting some sort of EDM anthem. The festival even dedicated a new stage to the more underground side of house music in the form of the new Yuma Tent this year. So now that we've come home briefly from the dust storms and nursed our massive hangovers, it's time to reflect on the top five EDM Coachella highlights for weekend one.

We've spent a lot of time this Coachella talking about the magnificent bros in attendance, but how about the fair and talented ladies? Per usual, they were everywhere, doing their thing like it wasn't a chicken wing, or something. In any case, here are the hottest dancing girls this year -- in GIF form.

This look could catch on one day, right?
We all know Coachella is a textbook study on the desire to wear things that no human should. That typically applies to the crowd who come decked out in ill-fitting, barely-there costumes, spirit hoodies and every piece of tight neon attire imaginable. But artists on stage can commit some cringe-worthy fashion faux pas that make us hope they'll take some of those hard earned Coachella dollars from this weekend and hire a better stylist for Weekend 2. Here then is our list of the top five questionable fashion statements from artists on the second day of Coachella.

As we mentioned earlier, the bros are freaking bringing it this year! Sure, we all know about the women who wear just about nothing, but the guys are getting exceedingly creative, particularly when it comes to their funny t-shirts. So it's time to give the men some props for combining humor with style. Here are Brochella's best T-shirts from weekend one.

While over at the main stage the bulk of the Coachella crowd was enduring Phoenix with the hope that Daft Punk would come out -- they instead got R. Kelly -- a smaller but perhaps-more-enthusiastic crowd got a first-rate greatest hits set from New Order last night.

This dude's actually drug free. But he still knows his rights
Hate to say it, but some of you at Coachella (which starts today!) are going to be approached by police officers assuming you have drugs. Well, you just may, but guess what? You still have rights, man.

A few weeks back, we took to the high seas to see what the maiden voyage of the S.S. Coachella would be like. There were still sand and sunburns on this ocean journey, like in Indio, but there also were waves. Our adventure left us musically satisfied.

Best and Worst of the S.S. Coachella

The S.S. Coachella returned safely Wednesday morning after a relatively wobbly night's sail across the Caribbean Sea. The voyage was a success. The boat didn't sink, and constant forced Purell-ing kept us all from contracting tropical illnesses or just the flu from our diseased shipmates.

Three days, 400 meals, 30 cocktails, 15 clothing changes, and probably like 50 concerts later, arriving back on U.S. soil was a relief but also left us wanting more. Meals, that is. Oh, and concerts.

After a day of reflection, it's clear that there were absolutely awesome things about the trip and some other things that were not so great. Here's the best and worst of the S.S. Coachella.

Top Ten Finest Fashion Moments on the S.S. Coachella

Yes, this happened.
Most of the people we met on the S.S. Coachella had never been on a cruise before. Like us, they weren't so sure what to pack or how to dress for three days of awkwardly saying hi to their favorite bands on a floating building at sea. But, like the festival, the fans also brought their desert style to cruisin' with mixed results.

We could sit here and talk about all the "types" of people who sailed out to Nassau, but really, we'd rather just show you. These are the most memorable fashion moments we caught on the maiden voyage of the S.S. Coachella. Get your eyebrows ready to raise.

Old punk guys and fancy wines, two things that make sense together only now, mere days before the end of the world.

Nothing is more a "sign of the times" than James Murphy and Justin Chearno hosting a winetasting in the middle of the ocean for a handful of people both able and willing to ride the S.S. Coachella. It has all the elements of things we want as a culture: exclusivity, intimacy, rock stars, and, of course, booze. The two-evening Real Wine talk really captured the oddity of the experience, in a more wholesome way than two people discreetly doing it in the Sky Lounge to a live soundtrack of Cloud Nothings.
