Blue Front Brings BBQ Back with a Side of Jazz, Pop, and Northern Soul

The faux-lighthouse entranceway to the retro-quirky building at Dixie and North 12th Street in Lake Worth has seen a Pulp Fiction jumble of pop culture history pass through its doors. Its latest incarnation, Blue Front Bar-B-Que, marks a very cool new turn in its herky-jerky evolution.

The food sets the tone: all-American soul classics like ribs, pulled pork, collard greens and some killer cornbread. The decor and the musical line-up add a whole new dimension.

Call the decor a "kooky dimension." The Blue Front's walls are lined with art Deco-style prints from the venue's earlier incarnation as the Jetsetter Lounge. The seating is replete with haute Afro, zebra skin upholstery, like a tribute to the kitchen's origins on Tamarind Avenue, in West Palm Beach's traditional black neighborhood. The building itself is pure Roadside America, with an "octopus garden" over a good portion of the block out back, at night a fantasy of Tikiville. Who needs acid?

The music is another irreverent stew. Regular Sunday afternoon/evening jazz kicks off this weekend with the Mark Doyle Trio, a be-bop gig put together by local musician, producer, promoter Ric Pattinson. Pattinson's all over the scene here, where his once-a-month Northern Soul dance party has set up a branch office.

Other musical regulars include singer-songwriters Bobby Gugliuzza
(every other Thursday) and Ella Herrera (Friday nights). "Caribbean Jazz singer" Dymine holds down Saturday nights (and as soon as we learn more about her, we'll update that too).

If it sounds a little loosey-goosey, it is. Management plans to push Blue Front's bottled sauce in retail outlets far and wide, and there's talk about some kind of reality TV show. Still, we get the feeling Blue Front is sort of a vanity project -- which is totally cool with us, if it means it's as much for fun as it is for the moolah.

Blue Front boasts a 5 a.m. license, and while the kitchen won't be open that late it sure will be nice to have a real late-night spot to hang. We expect to be there in the wee small hours of the morning.

Blue Front Bar-B-Que is located at 1132 N. Dixie Highway, Lake Worth. Visit mybluefront.com.

Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail

@warren Oh well, there is always someone taking offense at something...you can take that to the bank. I'm surprised you didn't take offense to the word "black."
