Timb Returns to the Stage at Boynton Beach Arts District

A musician of many guises at a venue of many enterprises, all it needs is a coat of many colors and the evening would be positively Biblical. And with onetime local staple Timb's taste for costumes and the theatrical, that's not out of the question either.

A fixture on the South Florida music scene for almost 20 years, Timb has hopscotched through every musical genre imaginable -- metal, electro, grunge, country, folk -- with a discography of albums totaling 20 (and counting) and a handful of side projects.

A Pensacola native, now in his mid-30s, a graduate of Sarasota's Ringling College of Art and Design, Timb settled down here in Swamplandia in 2003, took to his bedroom and started songwriting and self-producing a string of solo albums (all the while holding down a day gig at the Fetish Factory). There's been numerous studio albums as well, and projects with bands including Krueller, the Craven, the Chocolatey Shatners, Dick Knuckle, iii GUYZ fr. SEATTLE, and Los Torsos.

The fetish angle is important to Timb but, as he told New Times a few years back:

"I could delve more into the sex stuff with my songs, but instead, I tend to focus more on what I find funny about society, and people take to it more. I write songs about how I hate I-95 or why people should destroy their cell phones and how the government sucks. People can relate to that. I'm not sure that people connect to the fetish stuff. Plus, it's really a personal thing."

Tonight's venue, the Boynton Beach Arts District -- a collection of industrial spaces aestheticized by native artists into a graffiti'd maze of studio and performance spaces -- is a perfect fit for Timb's wide-ranging, highly individual, DIY philosophy.

"He reminds me of Bette Midler's glory days," BBAD mastermind/evil genius Rolando Chang Barrero told us. "He tackles his craft with originality, humor, and pure love. He's been on hiatus for over a year, and we've got him, playing master of ceremony and auctioneer! Guy's astonishing."

Timb. Thursday, May 22, 7 to 11 p.m., Boynton Beach Art District, 406-422 West Industrial Ave, Boynton Beach. Visit activistartista.com.
