Five Things to Do Under $10 This Weekend Instead of Easter
3. Record Store Day at Radio-Active Records
Record Store Day 2014, Radio-Active Records, April 19, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., at 845 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale. With Sweet Bronco, Shotgun Betty, Bluebird, the Astrea Corporation, Deaf Poets, and Ketch Shuby live and DJs Benton, Blue (South Florida Soul Club), Sgt. Pepperspray (Jacuzzi Boys), Kems (Hoverock), and Lumin. Visit Facebook. Free event.
If you're a millennial, you have no clue what it was like when you had to go into a record store to actually physically purchase music. Record Story Day offers new crowds a taste of the old.
The good news about this event is that it literally has something for everyone to get into. The older folks, a.k.a. those born before the '90s, can experience a sweet, aching nostalgia as they admire the many records on display while the younger folks can check out live performances of bands like Sweet Bronco, Deaf Poets, and Astrea Corp. For both young and"old" and even actually old, there will be free coffee and beverages provided. Happy Record Store Day! And for those who only speak in hashtags #HappyRecordStoreDay.
2. Spank Sunday Bank Holiday Party at Sandbar Fort Lauderdale
5 p.m. Sunday, April 20, at Sandbar Fort Lauderdale, 900 Sunrise Lane, Fort Lauderdale. Visit Facebook. No cover.
If you don't have any plans for Easter Sunday (you damnned heathen) or 4/20 (damnned Sober Sally), then this event is for you.
The party starts just around evening on the rooftop terrace and extends to the wee hours of Monday morning, so you may want to call in sick to work. Ashley Acosta, Ed Whitty, and Gabriel Ben will bring the dance music to the holiest Christian holiday. This party is proof that just because Ultra ended doesn't mean the fun has to too.
