Charlie Pickett's Twin Tone Records Reunion in Minneapolis with the Sonics
Ian Witlen "Chaz" Pickett rocking, FL style.
Our friends in Minneapolis have come unstuck in time and put forth a veritable punk rock powerhouse gig this weekend. It both respects their own roots and nods to the Pacific Northwest as the cradle of raunch 'n' roll. Also, it makes us question why we, as proud South Floridians, have not done the same, and reminds us of our former music editor, Reed Fischer who is now at the helm of Gimme Noise at our Minneapolis sister paper City Pages.
AF The author's incomplete, but highly enjoyable Pickett catalog.
If that's not enough of a rock and roll cream-pie, add long-running artist/musical provocateur Curtiss A & the Jerks of Fate onto the bill. But wait. Yeah. Given the whole Twin Tone Records aura of the goddamned thing, someone said: "Hey! Let's get Charlie Pickett up in here!" And the fact that Eddie O'Brien, of the Eat, will be on bass for Pickett, further solidifies the unquestionable stranglehold that South Florida's punk rock has on the scene since its inception. Pickett, a Dania Beach native, has been at the center of the South Florida live music scene since the '70s with acts like the Eggs and the MC3.
This is love, and you can't get your money back.
