The Juan MacLean

Tropical Storm Karen's got nothing on this weekend. With the monsoons seemingly behind us and a sweet hint of fall breeze sweeping through our flatlands, things are looking up for our first weekend of October.

And now that front yards are filling up with pumpkins, ghouls, and other conspicuous reminders of the upcoming holiday season, doesn't it feel better knowing you have budget-friendly options going out?

Check out our selections of the best music-related events under $5 going down in the 'hood this weekend.

The Juan MacLean. With Dat Politics, Molly Nilsson, Dino Felipe, Whorish Boorish. 9 p.m., Friday, October 4, at Gramps Bar, 176 NW 24 St., Miami. Admission is free. Visit Facebook for details.

The inaugural III Points Music, Art, and Technology Festival is upon us, and even though it might seem tough traversing all three days of this fledgling fest all the way down in the 305, it's definitely worth checking out at least one night. Why not stop by Wynwood tonight for a free DJ set by nu-disco champ Juan MacLean of famed NYC-based electronic label DFA Records? Also performing are international artists like Dat Politics and Molly Nilsson, along with Miami's Dino Felipe and Whorish Boorish.

The Butchers. 10 p.m., Friday, October 4, at Dada, 52 North Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach. Admission is free. Visit Facebook for more details.

Fort Lauderdale's the Butchers only care about one thing: Delivering the 100% pure, bona fide sound of that crazy rock 'n' roll music to your ears. Like their heroes the Beatles, they're wild, unhinged, and pretty much irresistible. Check them out performing live this Friday at Dada in Delray Beach.

Lavola. With DJ Andie Sweetswirl. 10 p.m., Saturday, October 5 at the Dubliner, 210 SW 2 St., Fort Lauderdale. Admission is free. Visit Facebook for more details.

West Palm-based band Lavola make atmospheric indie-rock music that "speaks volumes to the masochists in us all." Combining abrasive, dissonant sounds with melodic bliss, the band compares itself to rock legends like Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, and Queens of the Stone Age. This Saturday, they'll play a free show at the Dubliner Fort Lauderdale, with resident DJ Andie Sweetswirl spinning the indie-dance and nu-disco goodness before and after the show.
