Random Thoughts While Listening to the Car Radio

During a recent trip to New York, my friends and I ended up talking pop songs. They'd heard Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe," and though folks of discerning tastes, they extolled the virtues of this catchy tune. When trying to figure out what other radio songs they guiltily enjoyed, it was revealed that they never listen to the radio. Never. And I felt bad for them.

I don't think that "there are good radio stations" or that "all our radio stations suck" because, they pretty much all play the same shit, unless you're talking WFMU, Radiate FM, or WVUM. The thing is, that shit unites us culturally. And some of it is seriously awesome pop music. I mean, without the radio, who is 2 Chainz? What is a Justin Timberlake? Beyonce? Is that a word?

On a recent tri-county car trek, I, who listen to the radio quite a bit, was inspired to write down some thoughts that came into my head while driving about what was coming out of the speakers.
I will always love Trick Daddy.

It's weird that there was a time before Missy. I can barely remember it.

How many times have any of us actually heard Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer"?

Can I make these cheeks clap? What if I take a strip pole dance lesson? Stilettos are apparently optional.

I don't trust anyone who doesn't appreciate David Lee Roth.

Is "Patience" the best whistle song of all radio time?

"Call me crazy, shit, at least you're calling." Is like a woman's line. What man would ever say that? A wo-man or Drake.

"Man I Feel Like a Woman" is better than "This Girl Is on Fire."

2 Chainz isn't different, but he's delightful.

In "Look at Me Now," Chris Brown's weird dick lines are mimicking Busta's style. Even with the dick talk, this is possibly the best song ever.

Nicki Minaj is the theater misfit's Paula Abdul. A wanna be Lil' Kim.

If I were a man, I'd marry Lil' Kim. "The Jump Off" would be our wedding song.

There are maybe 27 cliches in "Hey, Soul Sister." Someone needs to create new cliches.

Who is Bruno Mars, really?

Is this really anyone's idea of what "fun." sounds like?
