Derek Trucks told us all about the idea behind the three-date blues fest they're launching here in Florida, "We thought it would be fun to do a festival with bands that we would want to sit out front and watch all day." And this week, they're bringing their fun idea to life at Mizner Park.
Galactic. Carnavale Electricos Tour, featuring Corey Glover of Living Colour. 8 p.m., Revolution, 100 SW Third Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Visit jointherevolution.net.
Remember Living Colour? They were the '80s and early-'90s metal act of all black dudes with cool hair. Yeah, we loved them too. Lead singer of the group will be performing with New Orleans jazz funk jam band Galactic at their big ol' Revolution carnival. Wear your best feather mask.
Big Head Todd. Saturday, January 19. Culture Room, 3045 N Federal Hwy, Ft Lauderdale. Doors open at 8p.m. and tickets are $32.85. Visit cultureroom.net.
Big Head Todd may not have actually made a deal with the devil, but their music certainly might convince you otherwise.
Sunday, January 20
Splatter-Rama. With Beach Day. 7 p.m., Cinema Paradiso, 503 Southeast 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale. $10 entrance.
Every time Radio Active Records and Blindspot host their gory double feature extravaganza Splatter-Rama, things get nuts. Their Halloween event with Otto Von Schirach ended up in a blown out soundsystem. Maybe it's the blood, maybe it's the guts, but the movies and music make for a wild night. This time, they're going to bring back Hollywood surf rockers Beach Day, and screen Demons and Ilsa-She Wolf of the S.S. There's also a movie swap on the patio, food trucks, and free parking.
