The party-rocking is on hold.
Rarely has the news of an ostensibly popular, best-selling musical act drawn such jubilation. But then again, rarely has an ostensibly popular, best-selling musical act reached its heights so bafflingly as LMFAO. While the group's shrill, high-BPM novelty dance songs are everywhere, it's hard to find someone over the age of 12 who will cop to actually liking them.

So it's no surprise that news today of LMFAO's not-quite-demise is making the Internet basically explode, one celebratory, schadenfreude-laden tweet at a time. It's all based on the latest piece of news, best elaborated upon in this Associated Press story, that the duo of RedFoo and Sky Blu are "taking a break as they focus on their own interests, personally and professionally."

"I feel like we've been doing this for so long, five or six years. And we're kind of like saying, well, let's just do what's natural and just kind of explore that, instead of like forcing it all the time," RedFoo was quoted as saying in the AP story. Don't immediately crack out the champagne and start shuffling in glee, though.

The story and various reaction pieces have revealed at least four distressing pieces of information:

RedFoo is 37.

Let that sink in -- 37 years old, and still writing lines like, "I'm running through these hoes like Drano" in dance songs best loved by tweens.

Tennis fans will have to get used to his face.

One of the strangest parts of watching the recent U.S. tennis open on TV was following a volley only to notice, in the stands.... "Uh, isn't that the dude from LMFAO?" There was Red Foo in full, absurd-for-the-daytime regalia. Turns out he's a huge tennis fan, and is now even coaching a player named Ayaka Okuno. It gets worse: He's also starting a tennis clothing line, and sponsoring his own "Party Rock Open" this Sunday in -- where else? -- Las Vegas.

RedFoo's solo material promises, basically, to sound like LMFAO version 2.0.

"All the music that I'm going to make is always going to be LMFAO-ish ... I love all the topics that we talk about," he said. So fear not -- the world's reserves of dance-pop songs about drinking, partying, drinking, and more partying will remain topped up.

Most importantly, this doesn't signal a permanent, forever split.

Though RedFoo and Sky Blu (the former's nephew, actually) don't know when they might work again together on LMFAO music, the door is still open. The pair's publicist told Spin magazine earlier today that the two are merely only working on separate projects for now, and have not officially broken up. Okay, fine, whatever. But how many times have you "taken a break" from a relationship only to delay the inevitable end?
