We took a quick peek at the acts ruling the stage in the Panhandle this September and offered a few thoughts on who'll get your inner-ear hairs tingling with delight. Check out our panhandle picks after the jump.
Friday, September 21
Day one blasts ya back two decades with Pearl Jam and Ben Folds Five. Try to contain unbridled bouts of grunge-related joy when you hear the opening riff to "Alive." The cooler part of your '90s constitution will shiver with delight when the recently reunited Guided by Voices bring the lo-fi indie rock (read our review of their newest album Class Clown Spots a UFO).
A word to any hip-hop heads attending Friday's show: Astronautalis will automatically dominate your iTunes for the next month.
Saturday, September 22
Day two ain't nothing to sneeze at either. You've got the Foo Fighters, Band of Horses, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, and Jimmy Cliff. Due to release his new album Rebirth on July 17, his first in eight years, Cliff is not to be missed. Word from our sister paper LA Weekly on the reggae legend's recent Coachella performance is that he brings some best of action and tears.
On a side note, DJ Jazzy Jeff will also hit the stage. Has he done anything in the last eight years? Appearing in reruns of Fresh Prince doesn't count.
Sunday, September 23
DeLuna Fest closes with an eclectic assortment of bands, including Zac Brown Band, Florence and the Machine, and The Wallflowers. By eclectic assortment, we kind of mean we haven't heard of half of the other bands (though we are intrigued to see what Hip Kitty sounds like live).
If this lineup has touched you with nostalgia and not bombarded you with boredom, buy a ticket and head north this fall.
DeLuna Fest on Pensacola Beach from September 21 to 23, 2012. The complete schedule is here.
