Ace Hood tries to keep his life as normal as possible to maintain sanity. "When I'm in the studio, I'm in the studio," he says. "When I'm onstage, I'm a performer. When I'm out with the people, I'm that. I'm reserved, chilling, spending time with my daughter." He lives in Miami but feels connected to those in the industry who are working out of bigger cities like Los Angeles and New York.
Luckily for us, Hood is out there showing the world what Broward County has to offer. "It's an incredible feeling for me, just to be the first person out of my city to actually represent us in that fashion of music."
His upcoming show at Revolution will be the release party for his newest mixtape, Starvation, which he believes is his best so far. "I've shown a lot of growth," he says. "I'm extremely excited to be in my city. The event is going to be crazy. I've got a lot of people coming out."
This mixtape is different from his others. He says his content remains personal, but this is more a representation of himself. "The song reviews what I've been going through. It's an upgrading of tone, of music, the whole style. I went totally left-field. It's a different sound. It's just me finding myself even more. And me feeling like I actually sound like Ace Hood. It's the sound of me."
He has a message for South Florida: "I just want them to know that you truly got somebody who's behind the city and that's really representing us in a great way. Trying to take us to the top and open doors to other people making music, such as myself. Just kind of taking it to the next level."
Ace Hood is releasing a new single in April, and a tour is in the works. Revolution Live. 200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. 7 p.m. Friday, March 30. Visit jointherevolution.net.
