This event takes an interesting stylistic turn. Instead of the jamcentric acts BLP often books or the indie-type bands often favored by SFMO and Jolt, this show is all live, low-end-centric electronic music. Live performances come courtesy of locals Dusthead, Freq, and Sounduo.
Of the three, Sounduo is probably the one with the strongest following so far, and deservedly so. Helmed by Miami-based producers Will Mills and Zach Morillo, the group makes a moody, nuanced form of glitch-hop meets dubstep -- the kind befitting the genre's early experimental sensibility. You'll hear lots of hip-hop and reggae influences here rather than the easy, obvious wobbles and bass drops, and tracks like "All Jungalists" reach back further toward dubstep's roots.
Check out the pair's track "The Spell" below, and check them out on the 18th in Boca.
Sounduo. With Freq and Dusthead. 9 p.m. Saturday, February 18, at the Funky Buddha, Admission is $10; age 18 and up. Click here.
