Kreepy Tiki Tattoos Announces New 5 Points Lounge

The Pine Hill Haints christen the new 5 Points Lounge on February 17.

​When the late Monterey Club opened, the relationship between it and adjoining Kreepy Tiki Tattoos was definitely symbiotic. If you were at a show early enough, you could wander into the shop -- the connecting door was usually open -- and check out the rotating art shows there or make an appointment. Still, though they shared a certain retro-cool aesthetic, and many friends and fans, they were distinct businesses. When Monterey shuttered, Kreepy Tiki remained in its same location, still enjoying brisk business.
Now, though, the men and women behind Kreepy Tiki are solidifying their address once again as an entertainment hub. The shop has long hosted the occasional in-store performance by cult acts like Wayne "the Train" Hancock." That kind of programming will now ramp up with the shop's expansion and the grand opening of its adjoining venue, 5 Points Tiki Lounge.

The official christening party happens Friday, February 17 with a performance by local favorite Diablo Dimes and the Pine Hill Haints, a coed underground favorite originally from Alabama. Plying a trade of dark Americana from backwoods folk to rockabilly, this act has been promoting forgotten roots music since before it was trendy.

The kickoff party will, like other Kreepy Tiki events, also feature an art show. Additionally, a portion of the $10 cover goes to benefit South Florida Bullies, a local rescue group devoted to so-called "bully breed" dogs.
