Boise Bob Benefit Tonight: Do Something Nice for a Hometown Boy

​Boise Bob isn't just a guy who sings songs about 'possum meat and swamp living. He's a South Florida staple. Bob has been integrated into the local music scene since the late 1970s, playing everywhere from dive bars to art galleries.  Artist Clifton Childree plays the washtub base for Boise Bob and His Backyard Band. He gave us some history on the musician. Many years back, Boise Bob opened a recording studio called Music Lab, where Childree says he recorded Charlie Pickett "as well as a bunch of the earliest South Florida punk bands. In 1980, Boise Bob and Rat Bastard opened Sync Studios, working with just about every local band for 20 years." He's given us so much sound and soul, it's only fair to help him out in his time of trouble. 

"In 1988, he started writing songs under the name Boise and Moss, one of my favorite local bands ever," Childree says of his bandmate. "He has given so much to the local music scene here, and he's a wonderfully weird character and a great friend."

Ten other bands and a few solo acts will perform, including the Holy Terrors, Mister Entertainment, Curious Hair, Kenny Millions, Rat Bastard, Mask Era, Los Diablos, To Be Hated, and Dooms de Pop. Of course, Boise Bob and his Backyard Band will break out their fiddles, banjos, and washboard to keep things especially authentic. 

Entrance is only five bucks, and all proceeds go toward paying Boise Bob's medical expenses. Don't miss your chance to help out a local legend while you can. You just might want him to one day play your son's bar mitzvah. 

The Benefit for Boise Bob takes place tonight, February 2, at 8 p.m. at Churchill's Pub, 5501 NE Second Ave., Miami. If you miss him there, catch the band at Miami New Times' Artopia Party on March 8 at Villa 221.
