Q&A: Viva Le Vox on Permanent Tour, New Album, and an Accordion-Playing Chicken

See what tricks Viva Le Vox's "Tony Bones" has up his sleeves, this Sunday at Propaganda.

​Last time New Times caught up with Viva Le Vox, we got raucous with the crowd at the Poorhouse. We couldn't help it. Maybe it's the anticipation of the energy the band brings to every performance. Maybe it's just simply voodoo. Whatever it is, when Viva Le Vox's Palm Beach International Airport Doubletree Hotel Shuttle van rolls into town, you don't want to miss it!

This Sunday, January 29, is your chance to get your hands on the band's new album when the group plays Propaganda. Until then, we wanted to see what adventures this permanently touring band had discovered since its last homecoming. The guys did not disappoint. Check out what they had to say below.

​New Times: According to your Facebook page, you're "on tour forever." This sounds intense. Not to mention expensive. What's the most challenging thing about touring long term?

Tony Bones: To not get burned out and find ways to keep it fresh.

Antoine Dukes: Keeping from fighting Tony.

How often are you back here? Do you still call Lake Worth "home"?

AD: We try to come back every couple of months. As of the show, it will have been five months, though I've been back on my own. Fuck yeah, Lake Worth is home. All of South Florida has been great to us, but Lake Worth, I feel like, really adopted us. It's been great to watch the music scene here grow and be so welcomed into it.

What can you tell us about the new album?

AD: I can tell you that it's unlike any variaton of Viva Le Vox that I could have possibly imagined before we made this record. It's a doozy. And Tony's performance is brilliant.

Why the lineup change? Any plans of adding members?

AD: It's the wind, man; it blows, you know what I mean? We got Joe Buck playing bass. I met a guy in a filthy chicken costume playing Pantera on his accordion in Ohio, and I want him in the band, but I think we are gonna keep it simple for a while longer.

What are your plans for SXSW?

AD: We have the privilege of performing on the Sirius XM Outlaw Country Stage backing up Rachel Brooke, who, if you don't already know, is a true talent and one of the best female vocalists I know. I could go on; we love being able to tour and perform as her band.

Do you have a venue or town you've been wanting to play but haven't had the chance yet?

AD: Europe. Someone buy us plane tickets.

You've had homecoming shows before; what makes this one different?

AD: We have a new album, new bass player, who happens to be Joe Buck, who, after parting with Hank Williams III, swore he would never play in another band. It's an honor to have him, and you should catch his solo set before ours.

What do you miss most when out on tour?

TB: Nothing. I miss driving the van when I'm not on tour.
