South Florida's Ten Best Albums of 2011

happy-headphones.jpg
Like last year, we're gonna count down the finest South Florida releases of the past 12 months. Many of them have received some attention via this blog, and some of them have received ridiculous amounts of attention.

This list comes from a whole lot of slouching in my office chair in our Fort Lauderdale office with earbud headphones in -- a nicer pair of iPod headphones got stolen -- and a mind open to the possibilities of the myriad styles that reside comfortably at the beach, in the warehouse, at the Snooze, on the Florida Turnpike, and all of the above. With the help of our resourceful and brainy staff of freelancers, this list is going on! For the next two weeks, we'll be adding links to all of the entries below.

I've seen that Mineo kid around since Pipe Clay Rut way back in the day. He's a great musician, but good lord has he drugged himself 58 minutes past retarded :/

What about highlighting some great bands like Chris Alvy Band, who's late 2011 release "Art Noise" is brilliant... or even hard working up and coming groups like Beach Day, BFGF and Radioboxer....

What about incredible local singer/songwriters like Robert Elias, Karina Iglesias and Joshua Stedman who are constantly gigging??

Seems like some homework needs to be done...hopefully next year the list will be bolder, edgier and more honest.

Where is the great pop record of 2011??? Half of these artists nobody has even heard of... There is much better talent in South Florida than this list... Sad. Maybe one day New Times will actually go out to shows and judge the talent for themselves... Half of these artists can't even hold a note.

I have to agree, most New Times writers seem to be more in favor of the lighter, jangly indie rock over any of the harder rock. I'm not saying metal, but definitely more rock and not all of this infused with copious amounts of reverb and delay stuff that's littered the South Florida local music scene.
