MP3: Blonds' "Sunshine Hate" Nostalgia Knows No Bounds

Blonds: Cari Rae and Jordy Asher
Earlier this month, the South Florida duo Blonds dropped an initial offering from its Dark Roots EP, and today the entire collection is available online. Since then, Stereogum and some other online outlets have started listening too.

As mentioned previously, the group consists of Young Circles frontman Jordy Asher and girlfriend Cari Rae, and there's a load of references in the lyrics and retro accompaniment choices that turn the dial to a hazy, Mad Men era of station wagons, TV dinners, and the ultra lounge classics of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra.

Direct your attention immediately to the playful Blonds' duet "Sunshine Hate," which features a play on Sinatra's 1966 hit "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'."

Within, Rae sings, "These boots were made for something, can't remember what that is/ they say 'buckle up and settle down, have a couple kids.'" Later on, the song grabs snatches of the Crystals' "Da Doo Ron Ron" and Bill Haley & His Comets' "See You Later, Alligator" (and perhaps Feist, if you want to include all of the counting to four), as Rae and Asher bat lines back and forth like a pair of kittens with pink collars.

As of now, no live performances in South Florida have been announced.

Speaking of kittens...
