Five Singles Proving Modern English Was No One-Hit Wonder

For nearly a decade the indie community has been making the trek to West Palm Beach to hit the dance floor at Flaunt, Respectable Street's weekly Thursday night party. The DJs play everyone's favorite hits from electro to 80's rock, and it's almost a guarantee that you'll hear the sounds of so called one hit wonders like OMD and Modern English. However, tonight things are going to be a little different since aforementioned new wave group Modern English will be taking the stage to kick things off.

Now, it's no secret that Modern English's claim to dance floor fame is for its signature tune "Melt With You". It's been remixed, covered, used in films and commercials, and chances are 99 percent of the world knows every single word. However, could any of us name another song by the band? Probably not. But not to worry, you still have time to brush up on your Modern English skills. To prepare for tonight's show at Respectable Street, we've compiled of list of Modern English singles that you may or may not have heard and that we're hoping the band plays.

5. "Chapter 12"

Ricochet Days (1984)
As one of the band's later singles, this synth heavy track has a catchy chorus and keyboard solos that will surely get the crowd dancing.

4. "Hands Across the Sea"

Ricochet Days (1984)
Another danceable gem off Ricochet Days, "Hands Across the Sea" is one of the more well known singles and has some very clappable breakdowns.

3. "Someone's Calling"

After The Snow (1982)
Who doesn't love a harmonious chorus? Even the crowd in the video can't hold back their excitement during the guitar solo. Here's hoping Robbie Grey uses those hand movements during tonight's set.

2. "Gathering Dust"

Gathering Dust EP (1983) / Mesh and Lace (1992 CD re-release)
How about that intense minute long intro? Seems like a perfect way to open the show. Also, according to the band's website, this song has been performed on every live tour since its release, so get familiar folks.

1. Smiles and Laughter

Gathering Dust EP (1983) / Mesh and Lace (1992 CD re-release)

Another oldie, but a goodie, this track highlights the band's punk sound from its earlier days. The tail end of the track is basically just a chanting of the words "smiles and laughter", pretty much making it a great fit for a crowd sing-a-long.
