Perhaps jumping at an opportunity to play a venue that shares a name with one of the standout cuts from its monumental debut, Let's Get Free, Dead Prez is officially on the calendar at Propaganda in Lake Worth.
No strangers to the Sunshine State, the revolutionary but gangsta duo of M-1 and stic.man (both Florida natives) met while attending classes at Tallahassee's FAMU. Although it took them moving to New York City and being discovered by Brand Nubian's Lord Jamar to get a deal, DP has always kept a foot in the FL -- from releasing singles with now-defunct Miami label Counterflow Recording to collabs with South Florida artists like Miami Beat Wave and Omniscient to racking up studio time and shooting videos (see "Hell Yeah").
Better-known than their connections to Florida is Dead Prez's trademark militant pro-blackness and fiery crusade against social injustice. Cut from the same mold as X-Clan, Public Enemy, and Paris, DP has more than enough angst, anger, and antiauthoritarianism to make it seem right at home in a venue that traditionally hosts punk and indie shows.
