Folks are gathering this evening to remember the good works of Michael Gochenour, the man who brought Elwood's Dixie Bar-B-Q to Delray Beach. Since he was found dead in his home over Memorial Day Weekend, there has been an outpouring of support from the community he helped lift up with his restaurant, his love of music, and his spirit.

Today would have marked the 60th birthday for Gochenour, who was best-known by his middle name, Elwood.

The gathering begins this evening at 6 p.m. at Johnnie Brown's, the burger and barbecue joint that now sits where Elwood's originally conducted business up until a couple of years ago. (The new Elwood's location, 301 N. Third Ave., is closed.)

The Dillengers, who served as the Elwood's house band for years, will be on hand tonight. According to Gochenour's sister Vickie Wood, a memorial service is in the works for late August.
