Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake on SNL Season Finale
|"Endless Buzz" begins here.|
Still, with the advent of Hulu.com and wrap-ups like this one, the actual TV experience of Saturday Night Live continues to diminish in its significance -- even if this was the highest-rated finale in seven years. In the clips below, we have three of SNL's most-recognized stars (Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg) peeking in, but for the most part, this show's legacy has become much more about the guest star than when we used to look forward to what the rest of the cast could do each week. Is that our celebrity guests' problem? Nah. Watch Timberlake and Gaga make the most of their screen time below.
As it turned out, she showed up in many of his sketches throughout the show, including What's That Name? The premise of the game show skit was to remember people's names. Although Timberlake played the forgetful, uncaring pop star who couldn't possibly dote on his fans the way Gaga does, the real joke was on poor 'N Sync member Chris "Charty" Kirkpatrick.
JT as a 40 ounce and a cork-headed Gaga made better use of their singing voices for a trip back to Liquorville. Songs that got the treatment included Rihanna's "Rude Boy," DJ Khaled's "All I Do Is Win," J-Kwon's "Tipsy" (which the crowd did not recognize), B.O.B.'s "Airplanes," Flo Rida's "Low," and Lionel Richie and Diana Ross' drippy duet "Endless Love," repurposed as "Endless Buzz."
For many, the highlight would certainly be "3-Way (The Golden Rule)" -- the latest collaboration between Timberlake and Andy Samberg's pop jesters, the Lonely Island. Although they make a joke about being "the new Three's Company," the limited used of Lady Gaga in this song makes it seem that the song was written without her input. That and the "it's not gay when it's in a threeway" line.
Onto the Gaga performances: First, we have what has been chosen to be the favorite of Born This Way, the piano ballad "Edge of Glory" and the prickly dance track "Judas."
