Though the Faint never technically broke up, it's been three years since the group's last record, Fasciinatiion. In the meantime, Fink, drummer Clark Baechle, and keyboardist Jacob Thiele have kept themselves busy with little "members-of" fanfare preceding any Depressed Buttons billing. 

It makes sense, in a way. The Faint's old '80s-tinged, dance-punk sound sounds almost quaint in 2011 and bears little resemblance to Depressed Buttons' purely electronic sound. Now signed to Mad Decent, their latest tracks bear the influential label's penchant for bass-heavy sounds from around the world. 

Better yet, they seem to be changing with the times, though because of that, it's hard to pin down a defined Depressed Buttons sound. Songs like "Mighty Putty" and "Superstructure" veer more toward four-four, hard-edged tech-house, while recent DJ mixes range wider, incorporating hip-hop samples and stuttering, low-end beats bordering on two-step. Well, if there's one common thread among all of this, it's that a Depressed Buttons track or mix is always unrelenting and goes hard from start to finish.
