Tonight! ANTiSEEN's Violent Punk Hits the Monterey Club With Force

Let's preempt this one by stating the obvious, ANTiSEEN are North Carolina's sweetest children. Not only have they to a certain degree involved themselves in their local politics, but they have also provided a fringe soundtrack for legions of professional wrestling devotees as well as making believers out of Hank Williams III and the almighty G.G. Allin.

That they are probably better known as the latter's backup rig, the Murder Junkies is a disservice to an almost 30 year career within punkdom that has generated genres like "scum punk" and further defined the country punk scene.

ANTiSEEN is a force to be reckoned with. A veritable organism of mayhem and destruction that has always lived by the ethos of giving the crowd, regardless of size, a great show. There will be blood. Glass will be broken. Razor and barbed wires may be involved. In the end, singer and leader Jeff Clayton's mug will be bloody. As will be guitarist "Mighty" Joe Young's fingertips. All in all, you'll get a helluva lot more than what you paid and/or bargained for.

They love them in Europe and you know the Euros and their discerning tastes. Personally this humble scribe swears by 1988's Honour Among Thieves and 1989's Noise for the Sake of Noise. As a soccer fan do I actually "get" the wrassling anecdotes? No. But does it matter? It sure as Hell don't when the rock is this raw and honest.

Will The Monterey be able to stand the incoming slaughter of ears and foreheads? Maybe. Powerball, Flees and Between Enemies will be there to bring varying degrees of punk rock goodness into the fray, but the main event will be bloody. Clayton's scars haven't healed since 1983 and there hasn't been a shaman or witch doctor in the interim who hasn't tried to help. Do they want your help? Fuck no. They want you to get your rock on and scream along in the idolatry of Sabu, Cactus Jack and Abdullah the Butcher. Long live scum rock!

ANTiSEEN with Powerball, Flees, Daikaiju and Between Enemies at 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 17th at The Monterey, 2608 S. Federal Hwy, Ft. Lauderdale. Call 954-598-1887 or visit www.themontereyclub.net.
