The Methodaires to Release Debut EP at Maguires Hill
![]() |
When the third wave of ska went down in this glorious land, we had few motherfuckers to pick from coming out of the Moon Ska Records camp (and maybe Eric Lee's Skanking Pickle crew), and while they did recognize plenty of Florida acts who held that torch high, they chose to end their feelers across the pond; namely, Europe and Latin America. Not that there is anything wrong with that... but we had so much reggae/ska going down in this dick-shaped peninsula of a state that it was almost personal.
And it still is, because one of my most treasured records is the King 7 & the Soulsonics' split seven-inch with Jive Step Bunch, an awesome little 33 1/3 rpm record that was by all standards a year late and quite a few dollars short. The Methodaires will not replicate this. No, they're gonna give us some Deeeeevine vocals to gyrate to.
There's nothing wrong with that. Enjoy. Make sure to dance. Dancing ensures more music... I'm willing to go halfsies on Methodaires singer Nia Devine's next rendition of Dawn Penn classics; you get four and a half points on the take after recuperation.
Get your grubby fingers on the EP for personal consumption next week!
