We've been touting the merits of West Palm Beach quintet Surfer Blood for quite some time now, even listing its hook-heavy debut album, Astro Coast, as one of our favorites last year.

Well, it comes with great local pride (and some vindication) to share the news that we are not alone in our admiration for the group's contagious brand of slacker rock. Our local indie phenoms are making waves in year-end lists across the country... and beyond. Most notably, the band's single "Floating Vibes" and its gigantic, gritty riffs was ranked at number 42 among Rolling Stone's best singles of the year, even besting seminal act the Rolling Stones (number 45 for Exile on Main Street's reassembled "Plundered My Soul").

Indie mag Filter placed Surfer Blood's debut album, Astro Coast, at number seven on its top 10 of 2010, above Black Keys' Brothers and Band of Horses' Infinite Arms. Across the pond, the album garnered the number 49 spot on British music and tabloid publication NME's top 50 list, not too bloody shabby. The five-piece's visual work also received commendations, as Paste named the satirical lo-fi video for "Floating Vibes" as its 24th favorite of the year. We've been keeping a tally of other publications and notable websites where our hometown guys have landed; check the list below.
